That Ms. Jaypal is so arrogant and so biased, not even attempt to listen to the address. Shame on the questioners too using anecdotal emails and communications.

I don’t know why they picking on Jeff B./Amazon. They or your government is spoon feeding Jeff B.myself, and everyone else their own money.

Why on earth the questioners asks a question if they already have a biased ruling to take. This is happening on anecdotal information they collected without any investigation to truthfulness of their information.

What’s the point of this? You cut him off 5 seconds into every answer to move on. I want to hear what he has to say.

You see if the customer benefits from better service and better pricing it is not really anti-trust, even if a company is huge. In the case of “Amazon is creating competing products to 3rd party sellers” every retailer does that. Super markets do that, Wallmart does that, all of them have home brands. It lowers the prices to the end consumer. What we often saw in this hearing is that the government created a hypothesis/opinion, and then searched for evidence to back that opinion. At companies the size of the big 4, you are always going to find cases where it went wrong. That does not mean the hypothesis is right generally though. A nice analogy, go on the internet and find “evidence” of the earth being flat. I am sure you will be able to create a compelling case based on a few data sources. If the gov can prove systemic mis-use of power, that needs to be regulated. Making a villain out of successful entrepreneurs, who deliver a great service to most people around the world, by taking out of context niche examples, I don’t think is going to help prove that. For those who will say, the examples are not niche, I challenge you to come with evidence beyond a handful of anecdotes.

All these useless Congresspeople care about is how many questions they can ask, not the responses. As soon as Bezos starts answering they cut him off because they think we only want to hear from them not those testifying.

Just a quick question: At the 5:20 time stamp (Amazon’s Dominance) do these percentages not need to total 100%? Asking for a friend.

not defending either side, however, i do find it annoying when they ask someone a question and then cut them off halfway through their response or give them no time to further elaborate. if they’re so low on time then what’s the point of even asking questions?

They kept cutting him off and wouldn’t let him finish sentences. They all acted like children. Would anything he said change their opinions or pre prepared final arguments. Bezo’s could be the devil but I kinda feel bad for this whole thing. They were only interested in making their points

How can productive conversation happen when they keep cutting them off? They need to change the policy for these hearings. So annoying to watch.

As someone who has ran a small e-commerce business, I consider this total B.S. I can sell on Amazon or any platform. The cost of my product is not affected except in the transaction process with Amazon is in the higher end. The idea that I as a seller am bound to Amazon is none since. I guess the solution would be to have Amazon only sell Amazon retail? Ridiculous, if you don’t like the platform sell somewhere else. Congress needs to develop a brain before they criminalize a company simply because it’s large. Google is a competitor trying to cut out the Amazon with Google shopping, Shopify with Shops, Facebook Shops, and best of all all, these companies offer a place for people like me to attempt to start a business that I could never have before. Oh and Walmart offers far better pricing on food than Amazon, while starting to offer small businesses like myself. Hmmm, maybe you can grocery shop and buy your physical products plus a competitive shipping time.

The diaper story is only one of thousands that has done directly to their sellers. Its part of the business model. Wait till they wipe out more and more business and then watch the prices rise. Wait till it wipes out your jobs in your industry. The store front is only ONE of the systems they are disrupting, they own all the data.

They ask him a question and they keep interrupting his answer. As a viewer I wanted to hear his answer and it was annoying that they wouldn’t let him answer. As a consumer I want to know what his answer is and I could not hear what he had to say. It feels like congress is just putting on a show.

  33. Jessi Taran

By expanding into fulfillment Amazon has betrayed the businesses that partner with them. Bezos has built his success on the backs of private vendors- and then as soon as Amazon no longer needs these vendors they usurp their businesses by stealing their customers. When Amazon was just a marketing venue it was great because it supported American businesses. The way it now operates is the antithesis of that.

Guys please consider a perspective here. They have data and history in hand and are monitoring the intent and relationship of the corporation with country. Hence the setup of cutting and moving on is happening.

The way I see this is that. Amazon is not taking some positive inputs from this committee in good will. As I see lot of information hiding and upfront denial of things.

It is just a good symptom of another mode of economy is going take over the planet. Whatever companies like Amazon has done so far are going to be our good lessons for this bright future.

I hope amazon learns and joins us on the other side. As it’s not a company but a representation of a big Organization

  58. Julius Reinhold

most of the questions are structured like this:

There’s evidence of an illegal/immoral measure having been taken by amazon. The Congress, based on those “facts” wants to have confirmation on whether the measures actually are taken or not.

For Mr bezos that means to either answer “yes they are taken” which would allow the Congress to alledge him of illegal actions and sanction the company. Would be comparable to a murderer confess of his crime. Not smart and self harming.
So bezos definitely never will say yes to such questions.

Or he answers “no they aren’t taken”. But this answer doesn’t change the facts, so one still wonders how the measures aren’t taken but evidence of them actually being taken fits together. Compare that to your knowledge before asking the question and oops you don’t have more information then before asking.

So the only answer providing new information u would be a yes. But as I’ve mentioned before bezos won’t do that.

Means that in any case you’re not smarter then before. Which in turn means your not investigating, but wasting precious time and money.

  59. Zach Reed

    August 2, 2020 at 10:21 pm

This is just Congress talkin the CEOs of these businesses barely get to talk they’re trying to get them to confess to crimes they probably didn’t commit

Congress is a corrupted outdated joke of a system they can’t even fix basic tax loop holes.

And people expect them to help the common man and woman.
While they can’t even spot the difference between Google Amazon Apple and Facebook.

While These Congress fools fired the tech department and made them self dumber.

The common American is now stuck with a ineffective government!

That made corruption the new norm taking more corporate bribes than ever before all while playing the tax payers in the current fake puppet show called 2 party democracy.

    Yes monopoly’s are bad but.
The level of hypocrisy on display here is comically large.

He is not answering the questions, just deflecting onto something completely different each time, thats why they have to interrupt him.
