In a wide-ranging conversation, psychotherapist Esther Perel and TED’s vision steward Sal Khan provide their unique takes on the answer. From personalized learning and AI companions to “emotional capitalism” and the rituals we create to live with uncertainty, the two explore if we’re getting better at living or just getting better at optimizing. (This conversation is part of “TED Intersections,” a series featuring thought-provoking conversations between experts navigating the ideas shaping our world.)

아저씨와 할머니가 뭐라고 대화하는지 나는 들리지 않는다.

@달러복사하는러너 hopefully you can translate this. He is talking about how it would be better for students to learn through mastery instead of tests. When you learn an instrument you play it multiple times, early on it sounds bad because of no practice, but the more you do it the better you get. He says it would be better than studying for hours just for a test to get an okay grade to then later forget the paper

@달러복사하는러너For some added context, the man’s name is Sal Khan, about twenty years ago he created a learning tool that works as he described. I was homeschooled for most of my learning and a lot of what I learned came from him directly, he’s a man worthy of a lot of respect

Just a question if someone knows what they mean exactly, does this mean that “introverts” who actually started the field of computer science, can be rejected in interviews because of the lack of communication skills? I actually think that even robots can speak in confidence, make you laugh and say good smart words.. but can they be shy or hesitant, have fear of public speaking, and be sympathetic (in an original way)? I just don’t like the fact the companies exaltate social skills over real work/education and btw this is not even new!!

For all of human history, a baby’s DNA was determined by chance at conception: the so-called genetic lottery. “That era is over,” says Noor Siddiqui, whose company builds screening tools to read the whole genome of embryos in an effort to give parents more genetic information than standard IVF. She makes the case that this kind of technology helps families understand and reduce health risks, raising the question: How much should we know about our children’s DNA before birth? (Followed by a brief Q&A with TED’s vision steward Sal Khan) (Recorded at TED2026 on April 15, 2026)
