In the face of three simultaneous crises — health, the economy and climate — do we have a chance to do capitalism differently? Economist Mariana Mazzucato explains why we shouldn’t try to go back to normal after the pandemic but should instead rethink how governments work together with businesses to solve big problems. Learn more about how governments can play a dynamic, proactive role in shaping markets and sparking innovation — instead of just responding to broken systems. (This virtual conversation, hosted by TED Global curator Bruno Giussani, was recorded June 22, 2020.)

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Pandemics, market crashes, etc show us just how stupid capitalism (with all of the inequalities it empowers) really is. This crisis would be much, much easier if we all had universal healthcare, tuition free education, internet for all and a UBI.

It would be easier still if we all had home, business and covered parking rooftop solar arrays, electric vehicles, indoor, outdoor and vertical food gardens in every home, business, school, grocery store, restaurant, public park and land, etc and if more of us studied and worked remotely from home.

Let’s STOP TRYING TO SAVE CORPORATIONS AND SMALL BUSINESSES with selective bailouts and instead simply put capitalism on hold (mortgages and loans, rent, interest, dividends, late fees, utilities, etc), launch universal healthcare, a UBI, universal education and internet for all! #NoCorporateBailoutsRequired

    #TooFarLeft #StillSandersPlatform
Education is a good investment from an individual, family, community or national perspective and tuition free education will reduce the burden from the root on our medical expenses too for example.

Healthcare for all is actually CHEAPER with the insurance industry off of the table along with most of the time lost due to billing among many other reasons.

A universal basic income (UBI) is CHEAPER than all of the thousands of individual federal, state and local social safety net programs including things like Social Security and unemployment insurance, etc with all of their budgets, overhead expenses and inefficiencies eliminating the humiliating need for people to lose time to prove their poverty to qualify for aid.

Internet for all is a great and necessary investment to give everyone the opportunity to study, search for work, work remotely, etc online.

Solar power is CHEAPER and electric vehicles are soon to be CHEAPER to make and already are considerably CHEAPER to maintain and operate, especially if charged from your own solar power.

What do you think will happen to crime rates, peace and equality in general after we launch universal healthcare, a universal basic income, universal education and internet for all, raising the starting point of capitalism from zero, we’ll let you die with no money, to a level of life with dignity, reducing societal daily fears on a massive scale and freeing us to welcome the automation revolution with open arms rather than with fear and great harm? 😃 #EqualityMovement #BLM

Call me overly positive, but I think we’re leaving the era of ‘greed is good’ and celebrating wealth and entering an #EraOfAltruism and equality. Let’s #AutomateEverything and #SkipToAbundance.

If you want a world without “inequities” then you are dreaming. The only society that has every had no inequities has been Communism, where the entire population (except the rulers) had nothing. Capitalism has provided the highest standard of living in the world’s history and helped other parts of the world to enjoy life better. All those home, busineses and covered parking rooftop solar arrays are developed because someone realizes a profit for developing them and providing them to someone.

@pvsmith you don’t want communism to eradicate inequities

Because communism is linked with atheism

It is necessary to eradicate religion.. But never eradicate spirituality which is what happening nowadays in the name of religion… Religion divides people

@Alka Soli SEER CREATORS All the moral codes and human rights we have today stems from religious teachings; it should certainly not be eradicated. Also, religion in itself doesn’t divide people, it’s how individuals interpret and preach religion.

@Ozan Somyurek Moral codes and Human Rights??
You don’t want religion to understand what is humanity and morality

Religion divides people in the name of different so called human written holy books and human made holy places

      All religion is human made..

You can understand how to be a good human being without following any religion

      Moreover Creators don’t have names..

They are just feminine and masculine energy.. Even the names and looks of Creators changes according to your religion

      Religion is followed by caste

      Totally religion is a MESS

now don’t call me an atheist.. I am not an atheist.. I learned spirituality from Mother Earth not from human written books.. Creators made Mother Earth.. Not books

Spirituality and religion contradicts in every way

How many Black Swan events will it take humanity to address & manage it’s inherent most destructive pathos of Greed & Fear?

These emotions govern most individuals, & thus business decisions. Until we humans can check those psychopaths who consistently gravitate towards power, and be held accountable by #WeThePeople, patterns of economic Crashes; Busts & Booms will continue for perpetuity. The Democratic Republic’s been corrupted/co-opted by the Corporations are People, Money influence of Corporations, owning their “Elected Leaders.”

If you read these words and you are facing bad times in your life, I want to tell you that you are not alone.
Everything indicates that we are near the end and that means that Jesus will soon come to rescue those who have believed in Him by Faith.
    Save your soul.
You don’t have to go to church or follow a pastor or keep the sabbath or pay tithing or being water baptized or speaking in tonges or do anything else.
JUST  believe in Jesus and express your Faith.
Start talking to God and studying the Bible.

    Romans 10: 9-11

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

    GOD BLESS YOU

Capitalism differently = socialism. So, socialism worked so good (where?) we should replace capitalism with socialism? Why is it that people who are in love with socialism (but insist on getting paid wherever possible) never move to a socialist country?

@Kessy Santos Thanks! I am a firm believer that if the country can afford to then every effort should be made to implement social programs to better the country (not just a few privileged individuals). But social programs does not equal socialism. Socialism is a distinct economic and political structure that makes it almost impossible for a country to afford social programs for very long. What I hate is crony capitalism or cronyism in politics, and I strongly oppose big (e.g. federal) government vs local (e.g. state / city) government, which puts me in agreement with the founding fathers of this country.

What’s going on is all in the book of Revelation in the Bible. All starting to play out as Christians said it would for many years.
Know you’ll go to heaven by what Jesus did for you in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and John 3:16-18.

Programs for the education of the students should always be changing as much as the students. Tempting to live life should not be harder then the classes I took. Control of the population in all sectors as was said in this talk for Ted.

Until we can find a economic system that can still flourish without growth eg stagnant population growth, real estate, new car sales then there will be no changes and the problems will continue also current renewables are not going to cut it either nuclear or similar required ,here in Australia politicians think post covid it will be business as usual even more so to restart the economy

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
