For thousands of years, the Amazon rainforest has provided food, water and spiritual connection for its Indigenous inhabitants and the world. But the endless extraction of its natural resources by oil companies and others is destroying the lives of those who live there, says Waorani leader Nemonte Nenquimo, and threatening the overall stability of Earth’s biosphere. In this powerful talk, she reminds us of the destruction that continues to happen to the world’s largest tropical rainforest — and demands respect for Mother Nature. “The forest is our teacher,” she says. (Filmed in Ecuador by director Tom Laffay and associate producer Emily Wright, in collaboration with Amazon Frontlines. In Spanish with subtitles.)

There are criminal enterprises at work in the Amazon and forests around the globe. That they are fronted by politicians, themselves accessories before the fact, make no difference.

These are crimes against humanity and should be prosecuted as such. The juries should be indigenous peoples.

One day, if no steps are taken, I believe that the people of the planet will turn toward those who perpetrated these crimes and hold them directly accountable.

The well-being of ALL life is important to each individual life. Unfortunately, many people have created this delusion that money is what they need to survive or thrive. They put the self, their single life above all else. I don’t understand how people can ignore the damage and suffering they cause through the actions of their greed, but this is the delusion we must fight to end.

We choose which delusions we want to follow. Some delusions can be healthy, with positive potential, while others, destructive. It could be the delusion of fame and fortune, or that science will fix everything for us, or that we need law and religion to be ethical, or that you are god incarnate. Which delusions cage your mind and which free it? We think we know what is real, but it’s all human social construct. One thing I feel is real is that we are not merely visitors here, not only part of this reality, we are in fact the universe, experiencing itself as individuals. Everything that exists adding its unique conscious perspective. The elements of our bodies were forged in the stars, yet our consciousness is somehow not our body. And how awesome it is to get the human experience! Allowing us to share in great detail our individual perspectives and experiences, being able to imagine the infinite potential we, as life on earth, have yet to realize. I follow this delusion and I choose to believe we will collectively understand that we as humanity, are the ones that choose the quality of our world. The only thing holding us back is ourselves. We can choose to doubt ourselves or to believe in our limitless potential. Our reality seems to bend toward what we think and express. So I choose to imagine and speak of a utopian future, all living things in harmony and balance, learning from the intelligence of evolution to advance and create ideas and technology to make life more enjoyable for all of us equally, to protect life from existential threats. I would much rather be a nobody in that world than a winner of this competitive world. We choose.

      Psalms 104: 25-30
_”There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small. There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.”_

I can only pick up a word here and there, but l totally understand what is going on. It not just takes away the Forest, but also the homes from the animals which in turn Will encroach on our homes or attack our animals. Then the pollution created by removing the Forest, and all for what?

El bosque es absolutamente intrínseco a nuestra propia supervivencia.
De hecho, sin el bosque, la humanidad ni siquiera habría evolucionado en primer lugar.
Le debemos la existencia misma de nuestra especie a los bosques de nuestro mundo.
The forest is absolutely intrinsic to our very survival.

Indeed without the forest, humanity would not have ever even evolved in the first place.
We owe our species very existence to the forests of our world.

Around 7,000 medical compounds prescribed by Western doctors are derived from plants. 70% of the 3000 plants identified by the United States National Cancer Institute as having potential anti-cancer properties are endemic to the rainforest. Tropical forest species serve surgery and internal medicine in 3 ways. 1) extracts from organisms can be used directly as drugs. 2) For maladies ranging from nagging headaches and 3) for lethal contagions such as malaria.
40% of the worlds biodiversity is contained within the Amazon rain forest. And yet more than 16,300 species of animals and plants are on the verge of disappearing from the planet forever, and that includes as much as 70% of all plant species.

All of this destruction is unnecessary at best. The U.S. alone could produce enough food to feed most of humanity, but corporate greed and political corruption cause, promote, and allow all of this wanton destruction to continue, and all for the benefit of a very small number of the Earths human inhabitants to be able to afford yachts and private islands, insane amounts of money and even trips to outer space that serve no one and nothing other than their own outrageous profit and entertainment at the expense of the rest of humanity and the forests that birthed even our very own species.

Conservative-capitalism is an all out war against humanity, against life itself.

No pedir nada, hacer.

This is the real future. Humans don’t need any more than the land can provide them. Until we learn to efficiently use our place in nature, we don’t deserve to separate ourselves from it. It’s vile and unnatural for us to subvert and destroy nature simply to sustain an imaginary ideal version of life. It should be punishable by death to clear cut wild land for profit.

Wow, this was a beautiful speech. Indigenous people have been children of the forest since the beginning of times. Being able to co-exist in the forest with different species, but at the same time respecting nature around them and not polluting the environment. I hope the government stops thinking about money and how to destroy everything around us and instead I hope they focus on taking care of our planet.
