Stop trying to play god, you have no way of knowing the ecological effects of doing this. I don’t like flees but if we get rid of them we will also get rid of Armadillos and hedgehogs that require flees to survive. What species will we eliminate from our cities because science cannot realize they are not GOD. You cannot create a worm but you still think you are god.

Science needs to operate on the notion that just because you can, does not mean you should.

Because a group scientists didn’t say no to the government years ago, we have Nuclear weapons and now the threat of extinction of humans all because scientists never questioned their actions beyond their abilities. Governments cannot build weapons without scientists, corporations cannot control our existence without science. Now we would still be dying of dysentery without science so its not all bad, but this is where scientists need to ask, SHOULD WE instead of just answering CAN WE.

We need to stop trying to live with the pests and find a way to make the food chain work without them. Or at least science should be able to make trap pools of water that attract the laying of eggs but have something that will kill off the eggs and eventually almost eliminate mosquito populations.

What I got from the video is this: We need trees for a greener climate and trees need water. Mosquitos also need water. The water in cities are not clean and therefore causes more mosquuitos. A good solution is to develop strategies that can maintain the purity of the water.

I enjoyed the talk. Good points made ????????

In Florida we were taught that standing, stagnant water breeds mosquitos. Dumping water out of upside down garbage can lids, pots or anything collecting rain was encouraged. Also, to avoid stagnant water, it was recommended to keep stagnant water agitated with bubblers, recirculators, etc. Can Ozzies install little electric bubblers in their rain water catchers? Maybe encourage manufacturers to include them along with screens? Also, the natural gas powered Mosquito Magnet™ was incredible at catching liters of mosquitos in backyards in short order.

If you design highly functioning ecosystems, you will inevitably create dragonfly habitats which are the natural predators of mosquitoes.

Create highly functional urban ecosystems. Stop fighting against nature and nurture it. Will we ever learn this critical lesson?

LLMs may have kicked off this AI boom, but the ceiling is closer than the hype suggests. As models run out of text data to train on, the companies and investors paying attention are already moving on. The next wave isn’t better chatbots; it’s machines that can understand the physical world. Luma AI, the Bay Area lab that raised over $1.4 billion from a16z, Nvidia, and Amazon, is betting on exactly that.

On episode of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, we’re bringing you a conversation Rebecca Bellan sat down with Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO of Luma AI, at Web Summit Qatar. Together, the pair dug into where the next trillion-dollar AI opportunity actually gets built, and whether the companies chasing it even know what they’re building yet.
