how much did you pollute to make the solar panels and what is the life span of these solar panels?

I hope someday they make a production version of this boat. I would love nothing more than to live on a solar-electric-hydrogen catamaran and sail around without using any fossil fuels. The tech could be used for sure on larger shipping vessels (which would have to be redesigned of course), and some Australian company is already building a solar-water electrolysis unit for residential properties. I’m a fan of this solar/electric/hydrogen future!

People scared of Hydrogen because it’s very flammable and can goes boom very easily. If it can be proven safe I think most people would like to try this tech.

That ship is not H2 powered, it’s solar and sail powered. All the H2 used is created from solar powered. Terms matter and your lied to the public without the S&E background to understand what is really happening.

Now I have a research project for you. Given the best COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE soar panels how much of the USA would be covered to general the power we need to be 100% solar powered, please show a map with the land area covered shaded. Also how much land would be needed for POWER WALL batteries for night, winter and other times when the solar is not possible.

THIS is something I think would be of real value.

Applications? Purifying sea water to drinkable water and using the Hydrogen to power the purification systems instead of grid electricity or other sources. Expensive? Yes. But so is running out of water. Ask Joburg.

Amazing design. The backups are so genius, with the multiple sources of wind, solar and hydrogen energy. I am so fascinated and impressed with these projects, even though it really is preparing us, and maybe even manifesting, the reality of Water World every day.

  56. Carter Harvey

    May 17, 2021 at 6:35 pm

Energy losses involved in solar-hydrogen-fuel cell make the fuel cell portion of this the weak link. Wonder if they could get at least as much battery storage from an equivalent mass of the fuel cell powertrain. An atmospheric cryo storage system would be more efficient, with the benefit of extracting atmospheric moisture without the need for desalination.

    • Erdoğan Yılmazçetin

      May 18, 2021 at 3:47 am

I think it is to make the environment more balanced by increasing the amount of atmospheric oxygen in a way, the purpose. Why the experiments were done is not explained.

Boo Hydrogen, its a scam for fracking, its way less efficient than batteries, the rest is super cool though! Yeah solar!

  61. Enjoy Nature

    May 18, 2021 at 5:35 am

Please don’t talk about hydrogen without differentiating between land and sea based sources. Most pro hydrogen stories, even if sea and renewable based, still serve to reinforce land based hydrogen solutions, which are almost all natural gas based and as such a scam for fracking. Sea use is cool, but please tell the whole story, you have a much bigger voice than I…
