that boundary example was so clear. like, ‘this is what will happen if you don’t stop’. not just yelling.

    They’re talking about “passive parenting”

I do have a bit of an issue with all those words to get Timmy out of the potentially dangerous situation. I went for one sentence in a low, firm tone. If Timmy has been told before, I added The Look. Did I ever negotiate with my kids? Well, I was willing to hear their side (not about jumping on the sofa) and maybe they had a reasonable point. But my kids, now in their 40s, knew who was in charge, without yelling or belittling. Unsurprisingly to me, their kids are just as reliable. There are times to be gentle. This ain’t that.

      September 11, 2026 at 10:02 pm

Yeah. That amount of words doesn’t indicate danger. Tailoring the language to the age of the kid is important. A six year old might get the message, but under 3 most of the vocabulary and ideas won’t be understood.

For me its the minimap gps. It looks pretty in design but functionally it bends into itself too much outside of the way point line and distance marker.

Translating: everybody is so mean to me because they’re all right

  6. @dakotataylor6605

    September 11, 2026 at 7:18 pm

I dunno. I guess that is what I do but in a more direct way. “Stop jumping on the couch” why? “Because it’s my couch and I like it and I don’t want it to break. Would you like if someone jumped on one of your special things and broke it?”

It sets the precedent to not ruin people’s stuff. It’s not the jumping that’s the problem it’s the jumping on the couch.

Mental illness isn’t a discipline issue. Abused kids are more likely to be mentally ill.

  13. @summerwoodward8967

    September 12, 2026 at 12:24 am

Everyone I know who “gentle parents” is actually just permissive parenting. Actual gentle parenting is amazing, BECAUSE it has firm stable boundaries that kids need to develop

    • @tylerbeaumont

      September 14, 2026 at 6:21 am

Yeah, I see a lot of parents and the “gentle” kind of just seem like they want to be someone’s cool aunt who doesn’t yell and lets the kids do whatever. As great as a cool aunt is, though, that kind of relationship being the primary care giver doesn’t necessarily benefit a child at all.

There’s a balance to be struck for sure, and most parents miss it. Not so strict as to be damaging, and definitely no physical harm if even the slightest bit viable, but not so lax as to promote a lack of understanding of consequences and mutual respect.

Striking that balance and communicating it with your child in a way which promotes mutual respect and open understanding is hard, but the things laid out in this video are a definitely really good step in that direction

  14. @TaliC.07

    September 12, 2026 at 12:50 am

Hard disagree on ever using a hole to describe a child… No child is an a-hole. They are inexperienced individuals learning abt the world and trying to get their needs met. It’s crazy to see so many adults, including this expert, co-sign referring to children this way, smh. These little beings that have limited knowledge and coping skills need our love, support, and guidance not judgements and insults.

      September 12, 2026 at 9:54 pm

And your comment highlights everything wrong with today’s parents , why kids are entitled brats who leave school barely able to read or deal with the real world because they have been coddled their entire lives. Kids need authority figures

    • @honeymustardplease

  16. @gustave-t8m

    September 12, 2026 at 1:15 am

I parent my kids the way my parents parented me. No validating their feelings, no discussions, no negotiations, no kumbayah singalongs – you are given a direction, and if you don’t follow it then there are repercussions.

As a result, I raised smart, respectful, resilient children who are not addicted to phones and spent more time outdoors than at their computers, don’t believe in this ‘loneliness epidemic’ crap, don’t blame others for their failings.

  17. @MaxwellDeyes

    September 12, 2026 at 1:37 am

This woman seems very upright and neurotic. I think she would scare children. She’s scared me

  18. @KC_Waz_Here

    September 12, 2026 at 1:55 am

The boundary is we don’t jump on the furniture, not giving the kid a soliloquy which isn’t even true. It’s not about the table, or that the floor is the better place to jump, it’s about the fact no-one jumps on the furniture, Timmy knows this so Timmy needs to get off the couch.

  19. @RacingSnails64

    September 12, 2026 at 2:20 am

Great message. Gentle is not mutually exclusive to sturdy. It’s outrageous to me that so many people think they are. You don’t have to be either spineless or crushing/calloused. There’s more colors than black and white, guys.

  20. @Mz_Blackwood-762

    September 12, 2026 at 8:41 am

One can be an effective parent without jumping to violence. Too many parents took “spare the rod, spoil the child:” ridiculously in the literal sense and have decided that the used of blunt force weapons is guaranteed success. Look around and tell me how well it worked, I’ll wait. BTW, y’all taught your kids that violence gets results. Thanks for that.

    • @GlutenFreeCracker

      September 12, 2026 at 9:28 pm

Coddling your kid turns them ferel. Kids are not equals to adults. They behave the way they du now because they do not see adults as authority figures. I dunt believe in hitting BUT when they would get smacked in school with a ruler, they never acted out like they do now fist fighting teachers. Children need to have a healthy fear of adults

    • @Mz_Blackwood-762

      September 12, 2026 at 10:41 pm

@GlutenFreeCracker Children who fear adults do not trust adults, and become easy victims of adults because they’re terrified to say no. Fear of the parent(s) is the base for child abuse. One does not need to beat their kids to establish fear as control but, again, it teaches kids how to get control as adults.

    • @GlutenFreeCracker

      September 13, 2026 at 8:12 am

@Mz_Blackwood-762ya you don’t get it what I was saying. There is a big difference of straight up fear of someone , and healthy fear of an authority figure. Think like how a soldier in the military has a healthy fear of their superiors. Teachers are quitting in droves because todays youth are essentially ferel, but yet parents will still defend their techniques that are obviously failing

    • @Mz_Blackwood-762

      September 13, 2026 at 8:57 am

@GlutenFreeCracker Soldiers don’t fear their superiors; they learn and understand respect. If I’m not getting what you’re saying, educate me, adult to adult. I want to see and understand your point.

It will be interesting to see all the problems gentle parenting creates in 15 years. By then we’ll be on to the next best thing.

Go figure people don’t know what the word gentle means. It doesn’t mean passive.

  25. @richmann8230

    September 13, 2026 at 2:51 am

Everyone loves my kids because that was a goal… To be a good social person. I rarely had to correct them and never saw a tantrum. They knew I was the rock they could depend on…. And that every restriction had an excellent reason, otherwise they were free to be themselves. 30 years later they remain the same.. Successful, happy, loved and respected.

    also not “arbitrary” parenting.

  29. @debrabellingham5201

    September 14, 2026 at 10:42 am

Lady, I did gentle but firm parenting. I did NOT want my child to live in fear of her momma and daddy. The results? She’s grown up, has a Master’s in Microbiology. In a happy, stable marriage and has an awesome little boy of her own! So, yeah that might be your experience, but it’s not everyone else’s.

  30. @Iamtootiredtobeclever

    September 14, 2026 at 10:53 am

Good inside has been such a life changer for my family. My parents and community were authoritarian and veered pretty strongly into abuse. Less so than their parents, but still rough enough that it took me into my 30s to not flinch and shut up when anybody expressed a different opinion because my ehole life I was hit, locked up, publicly insulted, etc. if I so much as questioned my parents, even in genuine curiosity.

I am trying, failing and repairing, and trying again, to do better with my parenting. Since nobody around me supports that and jumps to “just hit them” whenever I express frustration about an issue/phase, having these scripts helps so much.

  31. @DirtyTechnoBitch

    September 14, 2026 at 12:29 pm

Kids deserve freedom to make mistakes so they can learn to channel intelligence. Most parents don’t understand this since they rarely are in relationship with either. They think that means authoritarianism, obedience, conformity etc.. If that were ‘right’ war would have ended centuries ago.

  32. @CalmAndSteadyWithCristina

    September 14, 2026 at 1:37 pm

    Sturdy + Steady. 💯🤍🤍🤍

  33. @DianaTrent666

If you say enough words you never have to admit you know nothing.

  34. @inmay4446

That was such a great way of explaining it 🙏💕
