From the stage to everyday life, theater educator Jo Michael Rezes studies queer identity and the spectrum of gender performance — in its success and failure. Aided by a delightful introduction of campy charm, Rezes explores the freeing potential of playing with gender to better understand ourselves, each other and the spaces we inhabit.

Not a man or a woman? Are you a human? What age do you “identify” as? You said you are a PhD student…is that something you “identify” as? What if someone does “identify” as that…does that make it as valid as someone who actually graduates with a PhD?

I don’t get it. They seem to be making the case that attempting to play other gender roles, even when you fail, can help bridge some gap of understanding … I’m not sure what or how. From my point of view, all it seems to do is reinforce existing (mis)perceptions of gender. What key point did I miss?

Whether you born as male or female. Anyway you’ve both the qualities. So no need to be confused.
A complete human being is who make balance among all aspects of life.

I agree. We all have qualities that reflect the stereotypes of both genders. If we can embrace them and be ourselves without performance but with authenticity, I think that is a step in the right direction.

Amen

I discovered TED in 2009 through a torrent RSS feed that i had set up. It was such a delight to see the latest episode downloading, and i used to look forward to when it would be done. There was no TEDx at that time so basically every speaker was really working on life altering stuff and those talks opened my mind to so many ideas. I miss those talks now. Some content on TEDed is still worth watching though. But what a decline. Wokeness destroys stuff irredeemably.

This is not life altering? Where have you been? As a parent of a teen right now in this temperature of society I assure you that this is life altering. This is current. This is important. This is needed- pay attention or do not, but if you choose not to then you are choosing to ignore a problem society is having within confused and scared children who cannot identify with whom they are. OUR children whom WE raised. We cannot blame “wokeness” society is formed by the society before it. Do not be so ignorant. I have watched my child’s gender dysphoria almost kill them – call my child “them/they”, or allow them to commit suicide because “wokeness” is just beyond you and you are too complicated for it – you chose.

    • David Dunmer

      December 17, 2020 at 2:21 pm

@MsKazz1983 what is your view on giving puberty delaying medication to children as young as 7 years old? Yes that is a problem. Children say things they don’t fully understand, there was something I read, I forget where, but you can look it up. It said that teenage girls generally struggle with their sexuality during puberty, but for attractive popular girls its easier to deal with it. For unattractive and not so popular girls they get confused and latch on to the idea of being trans as an explanation for their confusion.

I am not saying I understand this issue better than most, but I definitely think that they are made to be bigger than they really are.

Maybe your child will outgrow this phase in sometime. But if you entertain and reinforce the idea of being trans, then they will fully adapt to that identity.
