Why this advanced robotic arm is cheaper than a traditional prosthetic

Prosthetic device startup Unlimited Tomorrow just launched its 3D-printed robotic arm Truelimb. Founded by 24-year-old Easton LaChappelle, Unlimited Tomorrow is creating devices more advanced than traditional prosthetics, for a fraction of the cost.

I was born without both arms, I’m not greedy, I just want a decent right arm, I have the pully system type right arm and it’s heavy and pretty useless, wanna hook me up?

The US spends the most of any country in the world on healthcare; but among rich countries, our healthcare efficiency is ranked last. There are too many middlemen milking the system and getting obscenely rich out of the sweat and tears of the working class. Unfortunately, this is what happens with privatization.

There are no controls on what companies want to charge for services. The government may not always run an efficient enterprise, but at least their services are affordable to everyone because there are no CEO’s, board of directors, and stockholders making billions.

the system is built around people having jobs and health insurance.
and low income people should qualify for medicare/medicaid,
so despite all those exaggerated “problems”
there are advantages to this system over the others.
ever wander why a lot of foreigners come to the US for treatment?

    • Hector G.

      August 30, 2020 at 4:59 pm

@Mariachee Bandidos lies, people from other countries will only come here for procedures that are not available in their countries. It has nothing to do with any advantage here.

I know from personal experience of cases where a person from another country has gotten injured here and sent home with a clean bill of health to later have to undergo surgery in the country they came from to heal the injury because they were misdiagnosed here.

Also, there is a huge gap of people between those that have good health insurance from their jobs and those that qualify for free services. Many pay a lot for horrible insurance without having a choice, and many others do not have any insurance even though they break their backs working.

But of course, there are paid individuals to argue against the truth to keep others like yourself confused. Or are you the one getting paid to confuse others?

The comparison with Smile Direct Club is unfortunate. SDC sells false “orthodontic” treatment to people because people know nothing about orthodontics, which makes them easily fooled. If people know what actually goes into orthodontic treatment, no one would ever sign up for SDC.

I love how the tools of today allow even the nubile in an industry/hobby to create the most impactful and complicated items. Often times it takes a person who is not formally trained/educated in a thing to come up with innovation because they’re not locked into an old way of thinking.

John our trade association has been trying all my life and with great cost what we found was greed so wrong you could make your own price. Only the good craftsman made it. The old guard lost most their investments due to their on going discrimination within the VA.

Imagine the day when technology reaches the point to where people who were once paraplegic or quadriplegic, can walk and move again, where the blind can see with 20/20 vision, where amputees can have their limbs replaced with better ones and where those suffering from brain damage or brain degeneration can return back to normal function with brain augmentation.

I would cry if I ever live long enough to see that day.
