The Ethical Case for Taking On the Climate Crisis | Al Gore, Wanjira Mathai and Karenna Gore | TED
For the first time in climate negotiations, leaders are asking the question that actually matters: not just how do we solve the climate crisis, but why aren’t we? Join Nobel laureate Al Gore for an in-depth conversation with Wanjira Mathai and Karenna Gore, co-leaders of the Global Ethical Stocktake: an urgent, values-first reset that seeks…

If TED talks wanted to be serious about this issue they need to leave Al Gore out of the conversation as he’s the biggest hypocrite around. He owns multiple houses, flies on private planes worldwide and doesn’t give a hoot about this. Most of us actually do things better for the world within our sphere however he is just a rich elitist who tells others to sacrifice when he won’t. Honestly this is what is making this channel a joke and that is sad as it started out really good. TED talks used to mean something at one point and now it’s just a show for those who can’t shut up and follow their own advice.

@thinkabout602Nobody but you brought Trump up. Now Trump isn’t perfect however he never claimed to be a saint like Al Gore acts. That being said we should take care of the world which would mean if you can make this meeting happen without traveling it would be better on the environment. We do have plenty of technology that allows for video/audio conferences that would allow for this to happen in the eco friendly way that they are talking about. My point stands as you can’t debate the original statement. Maybe let it go with Trump at times and think about other things. It’d be healthy on your emotional state. Try to have a good night!

@darinherrick9224Sadly Al Gore isn’t the one to be giving any of these messages. He doesn’t do any of the things he’s preaching about and I’ve already heard him ramble about this before. He has used incorrect facts and also lied with a straight face on many topics that shouldn’t require it. Unfortunately TED talks are worthless at this point. I already unsubscribed today as I forgot they were here and I thought I had done this before. As far as the ladies go they are probably not better either they just aren’t known for having multiple mansions and jet setting around the world so I can’t make a judgement on them yet. Unfortunately since they seem to be with TED talks exclusively then they won’t get the chance and I won’t lose sleep over it either.

I find this topic most interesting.
Why?
Because we, as mere mortals, believe that mother nature and the course of time can be controlled by our actions, that we can stop or alter the rotation of nature. That is absurd.
It is not intelligence to think you can stop one energy source and force another. Yes, one source can be misused and another other ignored and yet others to be developed. These are facts that are, unfortunately, prone to be in the name of advancement and greed for personal gain without thought (hopefully) of the consequences too others.
The term “climate change” is inaccurate. The term needs to be Climate Management.
Who or what needs to be managed? People! Yes we need to learn to manage our actions, our usage, and the referberance of resources that are available for mankind.

Out here in the real world, thousands of research studies and 40+ years of quite accurate climate models prove that the climate crisis is real, lethal, urgent, and humans caused with our emissions, deforestation etc. That debate has been over for decades, and the evidence is so rock solid that every nation on Earth has signed off in agreement with those facts–including the ones who make much or most of their money selling fossil fuels.
Humans are THE main force changing the face of the Earth, and a better term would be “climate disruption.”

It’s NOT a debate on morality or ethics. The world as we know it can NOT sustain the kind of consumerism currently going on. Economic Models from likes of Nordhaus are downplaying disruptions that will become normal at current pace of climate destruction. The theme or trend here is just like elastics. They stretch so far but ultimately come to a point of NO Return -> Deformation.
These models just like many in this social science field are made with assumptions & biases that are never questioned or referenced/sourced from the real scientists -> Climatologists & Natural Resource experts!

Internal research by the oil company Shell itself documented the greenhouse effect and potential dangers of rising CO2 from fossil fuels. This report dates from the 1970s.
An internal film produced by Shell in 1991 warned that climate change was occurring faster than at any time since the Ice Age.
Why would a fossil fuel company say this unless it was true?
Those internal reports were initially kept away from the public because of the obvious bad press Shell would receive, but they have been released and Shell has confirmed their authenticity.
Don’t believe me? Do your research.

Yes, the globe is changing.
It is not global warming!
Global climate change is a con to allow green left-wing nuts to push their ideas of removing modern transport and farming techniques etc and also for the wealthy to make much more money and put a load of countries into poverty.
It’s time to see through this left-wing nonsense and start enjoying life in the US. At least the new president has removed all the crazy standards required in new vehicles which will allow the price of new vehicles to lower which will make it safer on the road for many families driving safer cars.

@HealingLifeKwikly you’re obviously reading misinformation as if you’d actually studied all this you would realise there was not enough copper in the world to increase the electric cabling requirements for electric vehicle vehicles. Never mind the power grid to increase for electric vehicles.
Also you realise that plants love CO2 yet they talk about CO2 being a bad thing and when Adam and Eve were around the start of the planet the CO2 content was 400% plus more than we have today.
So I can suggest you need to do some more research and don’t think that I haven’t travelled the world and seeing things.
I’ve actually spent over eight weeks and what was one of the largest rainforest in North Africa now known as the Sahara desert.
The planet changes we need to forget about all the nonsense and move on and start looking forward to the future. Yes we will have future powered vehicles. They will not be electric powered. This is present technology. They even made nuclear powered vehicle vehicles in the 1950s for testing so let’s see what happens in the future but stop wasting money on nonsense.

@noblepatriot9292 Thanks for your reply.
First, with all due respect, I doubt he said that: Human memory is known for being unreliable, and although Gore has exaggerated the speed of sea level rise before, I’ve never heard him get it that bad.
Second, it doesn’t matter if I am wrong and Gore did say that because the climate crisis isn’t about Al Gore or what he says, it’s about the science, and Gore has been know to get that science slightly wrong.
I’m a senior university professor and researcher who has studied the issue–and misconceptions about it–for a decade and global warming, climate disruption, global ice melt, sea level rise, loss of biodiversity, and degradation of ecosystems are ALL getting worse as fast or slightly faster than the majority of experts in those fields predicted back in the 1980s and 1990s. So no, Al Gore wasn’t using respected climate science if he said that since experts in sea level rise were predicted about 1.f feet of sea level rise by 2100 back then… and still are projecting roughly that.
The most serious thing about sea level rise isn’t the sea level rise this century–although that will be incredibly damaging and costs humans trillions of dollars. No, the truly serious thing about sea level rise is that just our past emissions alone have set in motion a long term chain reaction that will raise sea levels 20+ feet eventually, but that will unfold across 300-400+ years. So we have already doomed most coastal cities to be underwater, and that’s why experts are so concerned about sea level rise even though most of that will happen in the distant future.
Just for fun, try searching for “Climate models have been impressively accurate for decades.”
Despite widespread oil company propaganda on the issue, the experts have been right over and over and over again, and a long list of their projections and warnings have come true.
Take care.
@SibylleLeon
January 4, 2026 at 3:13 am
@noblepatriot9292 Just because the worst of it has been averted so far, doesn’t mean the crisis isn’t real. It’s famously hard even for science to predict exactly how quickly the change will come and progress, because guess what, this is the first time we’re destroying our planet. Pointing out mistakes made is fair enough; implying that this makes the whole argument invalid or even more ludicrous, the whole person unreliable, is nonsense.

A Green belt movement is always supported by an undercurrent of individual households that collectively support eachother in spiritual, ethical, and environmental practices. Simple things people are already doing make global impacts. Becoming a vegetarian for life is one of the greatest ways I support my own spiritual belief systems and the global war on environmentally sound practices that do not exploit or deprive the poor and disenfranchised. The implications that people who do not have a degree in environmental studies are the only ones who can determine the parameters of healthy ecosystems are not always accurate depending on who is in office and what their agenda is. A global stock tank should take stock in the brilliant minds of the next generation seeking breakthroughs over propaganda, racism and a horrible education system that is set up for social slavery. Stock markets crash , but the brilliant minds of today keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And the dreams of Nelson Mandela alive. Behind the Fossil fuel crisis is really a war over water. That is truly the one resource the Earth can not live , survive or thrive without. Clean fresh water is what is the nucleus to our health, food, air, renewal of all life. Refocusing on what supplements are needed to add to existing water to make it produce the most crops without leaving a bad carbon footprint is truly the war being raged is really the subject at hand. The food, air , health and wealth tiers of prospering individuals and society classes all come down to clean water. Food for thought in the industrial revolution of our generation!

I personally am ready for us to start helping each other. I can tell you a major problem that has blocked climate change action in America. We did get offers for free solar pannels. The problem is, most of us live in rentals, so there is no way for us to approve of solar pannels legally for our housing. And we are also riddled with scams. No one here would believe that we can get anything for free even if it does help us. And you can thank the distrust that the US government and corporations that run ads have gained over the years. We can’t trust our government to take care of us. Why would we trust them to give us anything for free? Many of us are willing to help. Most of us are unable or don’t trust the ones reaching out their hands because they are the ones that have betrayed us before. Trump is saying that Venezuela needs a new regime? The US needs regime change. Badly.
