“Khanmigo” is not an easy name to get used to. They should rename the AI “Khannect”. Connecting 1 on 1 tutoring to everyone.

Sal’s voice is so iconic. I vividly remember 2011 being stressed out about college bio and this man’s voice popping up in a Youtube video showing me exactly what I needed to know but was too afraid to ask in class. I remember thinking “this is a cheat code, no one else knows about this”…but nope, we were ALL using Khan Academy 😂

Though the problem is if a AI tutor can teach you about a subject like STEM whats the point? That machine can do anything for society that the future student can do but better.

this is very cool & helpful, but hallucinations are still a big problem, especially if the AI is telling the teacher the info, I think this can create serious issues.

I’ve see AI in exactly the way you explain in this video. Education is dead! Long live education! I have been using chatGPT as a personal tutor for the past 2-3 months since I gained access to it and it is incredibly powerful in that regard.

I’m really impressed by the work you’ve done to make ChatGPT more magical and Socratic. It’s inspiring to see how AI can be used to enhance human intelligence and potential.

I can’t help but appreciate Sal Khan’s perspective on these things. I was quite divided on this whole ChatGPT situation but this video has really shown me how ChatGPT can shape the future of our education. I hope all goes well!

Once again Sal brought us to the next level of learning. One thing I’m going to point out is, this kind education is brilliant with the help of parents/guardian. United States has a good education program but lack of parents/guardians participation.

“When there are problems, we should put guardrails in place…” at that point, the AI could be much smarter than us and it may simply take-over. On the other hand, the only thing that stops a bad guy with AI, is a good guy with AI (or possibly just the AI alone which is much smarter than all of us).

They should give it text-to-voice. Realistic text-to-voice is easy to implement. Voice makes chat interactions much more engaging which is important for easily distracted kids.

AI doesn’t teach or tutor people, only proving answer. Teaching and tutoring are more than just answering questions. How lazy have we become? Having internet and instant information are not good enough.

This looks so awesome. As a special education teacher, I am almost always teaching students at completely different levels at the same time. This would provide so many more opportunities for targeted learning focused on responding to each student’s particular needs (e.g., identifying/correcting misconceptions, simplifying, elaborating, providing examples, reframing, connecting to previous learning, pacing). Not super happy about the price tag, but paying out of my own pocket for the needs of my students is nothing new.

I really think our form of AI is a plague on society, but this looks really promising as a tutor. However, I don’t know how I feel about it impersonating Gatsby or some historical figure as though it’s a primary source of information, that seems like a terrible idea. That’s like me playing Assassin’s Creed and thinking that the portrayal of, say…Rodrigo Borgia is accurate.

AI arms race is gonna be terrifying. He’s going “guardrails are good” but “we need better AI than the bad guys”…

When the bad guys don’t use guard rails to achieve their goals, what do you think the response from the “good guys” will be?

This feels like our generations equivalent of nukes but the damage isn’t as obvious yet

I am frightened at the proposition of “talking” to Jay Gatsby: he is a character, not a person. Speaking to him, or at least simulating such a conversation through AI, is a fundamentally wrong thing. I am happy to see such educational advancement, but I must be reminded of Frankenstein’s Monster: I wonder what an AI posing as him would say about the dangers of going too far with science.

Notice: 1. We don’t have a choice to say no. It is forced on all of us. No one asks for our permission.

    2. It is then marketed to us like a drug dealer.

    3. No one is allowed to speak or object or ask questions. Like a reeducation camp. Like it or else.

It’s people like Sal Khan that should be in positions of power and making impactful changes on legislation. Instead, capitalism is so rampant that people with goodwill can only sensibly act on it when it’s profitable.

Oh, these terrible totalitarian governments! Mr. Khan, why don’t you grace us with a lesson on your platform, where you can count the number of people who have had the privilege of dying under “totalitarian” regimes versus “democratic” ones? And don’t forget to include those who have perished due to an unjust distribution of wealth. Oh, and while you’re at it, please do compare the number of times “totalitarian” and “democratic” regimes have disregarded the sovereign borders of other countries. Just be sure not to get those two mixed up, because we wouldn’t want to confuse anyone..

I would ask AI to figure how we can bring more people into teaching, how do we develop individualized learning. How we convince school boards to end the standard school system, and make a better system. Like a school being a learning center that is open 24/7. Teachers are guides, end grades and class periods. Students would never be late, would have responsibility for their own learning. This tutor concept can be helpful in that atmosphere. More so then in the large classrooms. I mean, go for critical thinking, and support the students in their passions. What really interferes with learning are emotional blocks.

Saying using AI is cheating is like the controversy about calculators from however many years ago. Our teachers were like, “you’re not going to have a calculator with you everywhere you go…”

I would much rather my child learn how to use ChatGPT than how to write a paper on Shakespeare. The former is going to guarantee success for his whole life as AI is going to permeate every industry in the way statistics has been in recent decades.

This AI…can easily be preprogrammed…to only teach propaganda…

    How does a mortal…stop this?..

  62. Trường Ca Hành

    May 3, 2023 at 4:37 pm

AI certainly has intereting applications in education in contrary to what panicked educators think. However does it create two more problems for every one it solves? The gain could be achieved by simply providing better training for teachers and teaching assistants, challenging though it might be. Human teachers when well trained can support and encourage their students in ways AI at the current level can not. But what we find is that students will by default go to a chatbot to ask questions or help on their homework even if their teachers are good (due to social or psychological factors) and become increasingly dependant on owners of these AI platforms whose policy may or may not always be in the students’ best interest.
