Its a bit of a red flag when someone says ‘the latest science’ and then proceeds with wild evolutionary speculation, rather than to describe some an uncovered mechanism.

      October 25, 2026 at 5:21 pm

but he proceeds to actually describe the mechanism, and a scientifically founded example of the runners high. pretty cool that it’s more literally a high than you’d think.

Where you live shapes your relationships, your emotions and even how long you live, says community designer Zach DeBoer. After studying what a century of building cities around cars has done to downtowns in the US, he turned to lessons from some of the most walkable, carefully designed streets in the country: the ones inside Disney theme parks. With ideas ranging from narrower roads to buildings that pull you around the next corner, he offers a practical guide to turning ordinary downtowns into magical places people want to explore. Homelessness can feel like an issue that’s too big and complicated to fix, something we’ve learned to walk past. Jen Loving, who leads the nonprofit Destination: Home, has spent her entire life proving that mindset is wrong. She shows why we must stop waiting until someone is pushed outside before intervening — and introduces Right at Home, a proven model helping communities across the US keep people from becoming homeless in the first place. (This ambitious idea is part of The Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.) (Recorded at TED2026 on April 17, 2026)
