Crypto is a very exciting development, it might lead to a world currency. I think over the next decade it will grow to become one of the most important ways to pay for things and transfer assets.

Single motherhood has horrific outcomes. Some things are considered child abuse because of the long term consequences of those things on kids. Measured honestly in the same fashion, single motherhood is the most horrible form of child abuse. Better to have been beaten and raped, the long term consequences aren’t as dire.

    • MandaB28

      December 27, 2021 at 6:49 pm

I’m sorry if you were abused or neglected in a single mom household but there are millions of single mom households that are full of love and happiness.

    • Eli Nope

      December 27, 2021 at 7:48 pm

@MandaB28 Thanks, I am also sorry if you were raped or beaten. There are plenty of horrible abusers out there that say they love you when they really don’t know what love even is. I don’t mean to undermine the experiences of people who were tragically harmed like that. I just want to point out that people seem to be more resiliant to that than to personal problems stemming from a childhood of growing up with a single mother. Literally, people who were rape victims as children fare better in the long term on average than children raised by single mothers do in the long term on average.

Yes some single mothers are great, they are superb people with much greater ability, time, and resources than the majority of single mothers could ever reasonably dream about having. But most single mothers are not that, and it is the exception, not the rule.

It’s really difficult to see this occurring when even purchasing a home nowadays is a mission in itself. The space needed to run a daycare needs to be acquired first which is already hard enough. I understand his idea and if I was able to buy a home large enough with space then I honestly would take on an opportunity like this.

    • Taylor Wright

      December 28, 2021 at 6:53 am

Buying a home is so hard now a days you’re so right 🙄As long as your landlord approves, you can do it with a rental as well I believe! I rent… from family so it is slightly different but…I live in a 900sq ft home and run a small family daycare with 6 kiddos every day! Does it get wild? At times but it’s definitely do able!

      December 28, 2021 at 7:36 am

I once knew (some years ago now) a number of people that decided they needed a childcare in Milpitas, CA – and they bonded to form a group, and find a space to rent. This might sound like an everyday business, but it was not. One of the ‘founders’ was a neighbor, with children the age of my own. Anyway, it’s not a bad option to find others in the same need, rent a space, and do it within your own neighborhood. It’s not do much business orientated as it is need orientated. Their facility is still running today, even through Covid. Still, doing it within your own home is also a good option if you can do it. This was a great TED talk really. I hope people will keep trying to find solutions, like Chris is.

Awesome talk!! Thanks, I had an inspirational idea after this motivational talk! I have been going around in circles for a while now as to what I can do to help myself by helping others, because my life circumstances had changed, then the “jab crap” brought most everything in my life to a halt – but I am healthier now, more than ever, except for the “plandemic imposed “cabin fever” “, we were all stricken with at some point – only I’m still stuck in the cabin! We are so grateful for TED Talks, a rich assortment of topics, with new + up to date information on just about everything!! Like a giant, new age telephone book, a world-wide data base, of innovative, creative and educationally beneficial ideas + information. Thank you for sharing with us all. May TED be blessed in 2022, for as changes are ushered into our world, we will need services like Ted even that much more. God bless you all. Namaste ❤️🌹

There’s a certain vetting that needs to happen with child care workers that wouldn’t happen in the gig economy. The gig economy also seems like a neoliberal way to exploit workers even deeper. We need a government that gives us our money’s worth on important issues like early education for it’s most important asset in the future.

It can be if you have small children of your own! When I became a home daycare provider I started making double what I made as a commercial preschool teacher AND I get to stay home with my kiddo. It takes about a year of prepping, organizing and advertising to get to the point of making a very live-able salary but it’s profitable. I mean obviously not 3 figures but I’m not expecting that

This is a great idea. So many community groups are rising up to help one another. Unlocking the potential locally, with people who we know in our communities to look after our children, would be a safe, affordable and high quality option.

I am for home based childcare. Parents need to raise their children!
I am a former nanny and children want their parents.
Less stuff parents. Less vacations….. and more parental raising of their kids.

Small problem with this idea: fire safety. 30 to 40 kids in a house if there is a fire it is going to be dangerous in a house. A child care center built for that purpose will have a sprinkler system and fire alarm. The electrical code for buildings like that is also stricter and safer than home wiring.

    • Taylor Wright

      December 28, 2021 at 6:55 am

Oh yeah that wouldn’t be safe at all! Depending on the license I believe the maximum amount of children allowed in a home based childcare is 14! Most licenses (like mine) are for 2-8 kids!

    • KnightsWithoutATable

      December 28, 2021 at 7:14 am

@Taylor Wright 2-8 kids is far safer. Even 14 would be reasonable. The problem is that there are not enough people that would want to open such home businesses if that was the number they were restricted to, returning us to the same problem of there being insufficient facilities. With the need being so massive and the cost so high to set up the facilities, we are looking at having the government having to step in to fill the need.

The other option is to pay people enough that both parents in a family don’t have to work to provide well enough for their family, but that leaves single parents still in the same situation.

I have a home daycare! I used to be a preschool teacher but when I had my son(who is now 3) I found childcare to be too expensive (even with teacher discount)for the amount I made- I would have to give almost half of my paycheck and I just couldn’t afford it along with rent and basic needs- live in California. So I licensed my home and I am now making double what I would as a preschool teacher, while raising my son AND giving cheaper tuition rates to the families! It can be challenging-any job can be-but truthfully it’s the best job I’ve had yet!

Great idea. The children are the future of the world, they need to have the opportunity to learn as much as possible since the day they were born. But most of the times it does not happen because parents are not able to find a good daycare to let their children, so, the fact of having a family daycare nearby, sounds interesting.

How much should we invest in teachers, and what should new investment actually involve? Education innovator Randy Seriguchi Jr. suggests the US should create a “G.I. Bill” for teachers, with a particular emphasis on uplifting Black male professionals. He shares a model of this idea in action through community partnerships in San Francisco, which provide aspiring teachers with graduate school tuition, subsidized housing, personalized fit assessments and more. “If we truly want to elevate this profession to inspire new, diverse talent to join us, we have to improve both the personal and professional experiences associated with teaching,” says Seriguchi.
