Apple’s new research robot takes a page from Pixar’s playbook | TechCrunch
Apple’s latest robotics research has an apparent Pixar homage. Apple’s new consumer robotics research paper, argues expressive movements are key to optimizing human-robot interaction. For its study, Apple used a lamp as a ‘non-anthropomorphic’ example — referencing the logo of Pixar, the animation studio co-founded by Steve Jobs.

Replace that lamps shade with a translucent rubber and add a flexible plastic ribbjng that is connected to 2 z shaped fingers inside to give it the ability to smile. Then give it the ability to change colors based off emotions. You’ll then have the coolest scariest robot.

Why don’t you just make one yourself

It’s a good design. I like it. I just thought I’d throw that out there in case they didn’t think about it. But im actually working on getting a cool work shop suitable for doing cool projects like that. But I don’t think there needs to be any competition about who can make the best lamp based robot. That’s just bound to happen naturally. They’re doing a great job so far.

Let’s make robots more expressive.
Why?
Literally no reason.

To optimise human to robot interaction, literally the next sentence in the video.

@Lewisneva well yea, but truthfully, what’s even the reason behind that?

@@Lewisneva money. How obvious.
What a great idea too.
Let’s make robots more “expressive” so we can earn more money.
Nothing more “expressive” than corporate profits huh?
Look at our “expressive” robots
Look at them dance and sing for our amusement. Each and every movement, profit sowed in every algorithmic demonstration…
It’s like a billionaire coping with their inhumanity, dreaming for something to take place of what was lost, long before they even knew they had it…
But hey, it’s the future! Ai puppetered robot jesters! Haha! They are so cute! I want one now! Take my money!
@microcosms2420

@@Lewisneva my true reason is to ask why?
What Little effects this video presents, we must ask ourselves, what future does this bring?
Do we simply mock those who ask if we acknowledge these primitive ai’s into our society?
Or do we just see money.
“Money spent, thus money must earn. ”
Sidestepping the very legitimate origin of where “money” actually originates from…
Where’s the argument there?
Wheres the dictation of money vs real people’s values in a country that claims to be of the people, by the people?
