Seeing as a product pipeline is years in the making (ex. Apple Watch was conceived in 2012, first released in 2015), even if Ternus did change the design team, a drastic change to products would not be immediate. And given he’s risen in the ranks over time and is head of hardware engineering, he also had influence since hardware capabilities vs. design are often met with conflicts and compromises, so he had a front seat to current and future products. Also, someone recently complained how iPhones are incremental changes… and rightfully so someone responded that users don’t change out their phones every year, more like 3-5 years for the average customer, so the big jumps aren’t needed. It’d be the same for design. Unless there’s a major breakthrough in tech (ex. battery composition, screen+glass tech) then design will also be incremental given how many features they have to now account for. I’m in no way saying there shouldn’t be a shift in design, but a full shake-up to what was built-up the last several years since he’s part of that history, doesn’t seem to be a priority.

Apple needs to go back to the drawing board. Making seamless synergy between beautiful hardware and flawless software. iOS has been a clunky, unintuitive mess and iPhone 17 Pro is butt ugly and cheap thin aluminum.

The software has gone down the toilet since the introduction of the public beta testing. The numerous bugs get worse and seamlessly never get fixed.
