MAGA is a cult, yes, started in 2016 by Cambridge Analytica to decide the outcome of one particular vote. The perpetrators have just walked away & let it take it’s own course, or maybe they’re still steering it.

I really wanted to like the social socialism versus capitalism chat. But he missed one big aspect he assumes everybody goes by the same dictionary in America and I talked to Americans as I live here old age Security, Social Security benefits by the rest of the world might be seen as a socialism type project.. but Americans are very proud and fierce and say no those are amazing examples of capitalistic Society and if you give it any other name you’re incorrect and you can pound sand. They will say that nothing in America is socialist and if you think so, you’re wrong. So his speech, his TED talk is perfect for most countries other than America. Hahag

In my experience, when I’ve pointed out that Social Security and public schools are “a dash of socialism mixed with capitalism,” most people I’ve talked to have conceded the point. Depending on how invested I & the other person are in discussing the topic, if someone disagrees I ask if they’re willing to look at the actual definitions of socialism and capitalism. If they are, they usually come away from it agreeing that these programs are socialist in nature. If they aren’t, no problem, change the subject. At the very least, I’ve planted a seed in their mind, and maybe down the road they’ll revisit it.
Still, even if we disagree, I’m learning how to acknowledge the points they make that are valid by using, “Yes, *and*…”

Why do they have to watch this? I have a major flaw with the abortion. I understand that talk and it makes perfect sense and I don’t disagree with it, but the extremes are much bigger than she believes if you do simple googling 65% plus depending on the survey, you see identify themselves as Christian in the broadest sense and following some type of Christian rules> when asked to go to church regularly that goes down to 30 to 40%. So if at minimum 30% are stuck in beliefs there’s no way you’re going to get a middleground where under certain circumstances it is allowed and that’s where we are today and that’s where we are going to stay until something changes on the belief side. Again, I’m not trying to pick on anybody. I’m just trying to state facts.

Actually capitalism was a tool of liberalism to lift people out of poverty as it was liberalism that pushed for collective bargaining rights, civil rights and democratic self determination..
Capitalism is a tool, an unfettered one..

Whatever type of system you have, there are always going to be those who try to discover ways to exploit it for self gain.
Greed is a driving force for some.
Also, who gets to decide such systems?
If we go back to what I said before about people out there wanting to exploit such systems for self gain, they will also use some advantage in who gets to decide those systems.
It could be as simple as one person saying, if you vote for ‘ X ‘, then I’ll do ‘ Y ‘ for you in order to help you get what you want.
Do that enough times with the right people, and you’ll get your advantage.
I don’t think there is ever or will ever be a system that is truly fair for everyone.
@niccolom
August 25, 2025 at 11:25 am
Capitalism is the only fair system because it measures in an objective way via money.
Everybody abides by the same set of laws, and the playing field is the same for everyone.
The problem is that, many people think that “talent” and other advantages that one is born with are “unfair.”
This is like someone calling Messi unfair on the soccer field and want to ban him from playing.
Some people are born to be better and some aren’t. That does not make the game unfair. As long as the rules and laws are the same for everyone, the game of life is fair. This includes circumventing the rules and laws too. Some people understand them more and therefore are willing to take more risks, and most people don’t. That’s all part of the game.
