I wish more companies would actually do these things. It’s great to talk about what should be done, it’s a whole other experience to DO the things!!!

So very true, it’s a common practice with companies in today’s culture, they are reluctant to listen to their employees when they offer them actual working solutions.
      .
I think as employees it’s really time to take charge and ownership in deciding who is worthy for us to work for , until these companies figure out how to treat their employees right.
“Which by the way are the people producing the wealth and success they are so quick to take credit for.

I understand where you’re coming from, especially in a startup environ. This video is mostly about interpersonal problems (between you & your cofo or you and your customer) and not really engineering or skill based problems.

Why do lots of gay people find it necessary to publicly announce their sexual orientation? Ted Talks are NOT the place to do that. It’s private – keep it private.

I don’t see heterosexual people going around announcing their sexual orientation on a regular basis. Why don’t they? Because no one cares.

WTF is the point in putting highly private information on display especially in a business setting like a Ted Talk?
What are you trying to accomplish?
    No one cares!
    Stop it!
    It’s fucking annoying!

  16. Doug Ewald

    May 31, 2023 at 8:28 pm

Her backhanded jab at straight people is totally inappropriate & extremely unprofessional.

WTF is going with Ted lately? They’ve gone completely off the high standards they used to have.

Just put the information out & keep the gay agenda to yourselves. It’s distracting & annoying. I don’t see straight people using their sexual orientation to highlight the information they put out.

I probably speak for lots of people when I say that I have nothing against gays. But announcing your sexual preferences publicly & often is unnecessary. It’s private – keep it that way. Do you see straight people doing this at the same rate? Do you think you are above the rules of normal social conduct? Do you actually think anyone cares if you’re gay? Why are you doing this? Do you expect special treatment?

      June 1, 2023 at 2:26 am

      I disagree

    • Sareaesque

      June 1, 2023 at 5:40 am

What exactly was the jab? Straight people don’t need to announce they’re straight because it’s assumed to be the default, if most people looked at someone they didn’t know, the assumption would be that they were straight until they are given information otherwise. She made two references to her sexuality, when mentioning that she works with her wife in the area relevant to her talk, and as an example of opposite demographics who could speak to each other to learn about communicating with people with different lived experiences, both points were completely relevant to her talk. The only ‘agenda’ anyone in the LGBTQIA+ sphere has is to exist with the same opportunities and respect as anyone else, but if your immediate response to hearing that someone is ‘other’ in some way, is ‘nothing against you but I don’t want to see that’ then you do have a problem because you only approve of them when you don’t actually have to see and acknowledge that they exist.

Every time a man speaks about some beautiful girl in the room, he announced his sexual preferences. It’ s omnipresent. We don’t even notice that.

Yes I do see straight people doing this at the same rate. Seen a lot of TED talks, many male speakers referring to their wives and many female speakers referring to their husbands….but nobody in the comments complained….

Honestly, the last part is something companies often overlook,I do agree that when problems occurs the faster we handle it the better it is for everyone involved.
    .
Getting to the bottom of your Employees frustrations should really be an urgent matter for any company that values their employees.
    .
Also anything that is mediocre, produces low morals , and contributes to a toxic and unpleasant work environment should be fixed like yesterday.
    .
Companies who are not people driven will often abuse their employees, because honestly, all they truly care about is stocks and profits -those companies will drain their employees and compromises their mental health and wellbeing to get their profits .
    .
I honestly don’t see these old companies who’ve thrive from the old toxic system changing their ways unless we give them an incentive to do so.
    .
Let’s start demand that employers improve their ways -by creating policies and training to prevent unhealthy workplaces
    .
Wouldn’t you feel better to know that you are interesting your money in a company that has high moral values.

As employees I propose we create our own systems to start getting the word out -to warn others not to work for these unhealthy/toxic companies.
    .

Creating healthy company culture is the easiest thing in the world . There are great companies out there doing just that.

This is why I propose as caring citizens we stop investing in these low moral companies and support the ones with better values

This is how we can begin to create real change in the employment system for the betterment of all working employees across our world.
