A smart watch made my workouts worse. I was letting the watch dictate my workouts rather than intensity, reps or time.
If I saw the bar was full, I realized I would slack off a bit. It became a mental validation rather than a valid tool.

I’m still proud of the email I got from fitbit one day, when they congratulated me for climbing 185 flights of stairs one day. They said I achieved more stairs that day than anyone else in the world.
It’s a total coincidence that I left my fitbit attached to my trousers when they went into the washing machine and then the dryer.

May 27, 2019 at 2:23 pm
LOL! And I’m sure Fitibit doesn’t have every single statistic available. Maybe some people left their non-Fitbit gadget in a longer cycle. I was shocked the day I found out you can bob your Fitbit up and down with one hand in a skewed motion and it thinks you’re walking.

May 27, 2019 at 2:55 pm
That’s BS. Fitbit devices that count floors have an altimeter sensor that can detect when you’re going up or down in elevation. Your device registers one floor when you climb about 10 feet at one time. It does not register floors when you go down.
Fitbit devices do not count the elevation gains simulated from a StairMaster, inclined treadmill, or other stationary exercise equipment. Your device uses changes in barometric pressure to detect elevation change, and therefore requires that you physically change elevation in order to properly record floors.

May 27, 2019 at 3:18 pm
+RealmanPwns You’ll need to tell Fitbit that it’s BS. They’re the ones that sent me the email (with a certificate I could print out).

If you want to lose weight quicker, you need to buy multiple fitness trackers. Buy four trackers and lose weight four times as fast.

What went wrong. Put down the fork and do something. Drink water any other drink is bound to be full of sugar and unnecessary fat. Eat your calories don’t drink them.

Results depend on your activity
Calibrate your tracker if possible
Suggestions are optional. Do something else if needed to meet your goal.
Trackers are just trackers. You need setup a goal and understand what is is needed to achieve that goal. Nutrition and exercise not included. 🙂

If you are relying this much on your fitness tracker, you are doing it all wrong if your trying to loose weight. Let me simply put it this way, track your darn macros. Set what you want to loose per week, and being consistent along with having dedication goes a long way. Eat foods that fit in with your macros and your set calories per day. And having a good workout routine for the week with consistency will definitely help you out. RN I’m in. A calorie deficit, I’m eating 2000 calories a day. My macros are 150g of protein, 250g of carbs, and 44g of fat’s. There is a lot more involved, how ever that’s why you ask for advice from a nutritionist or a fitness trainer. In all, it’s all about you and getting yourself motivated. You can do it. And having a fitness tracker is fun too. But it can’t do it all for you.

I lie using my Fitbit charge 2 to track my 2 mile run for PT tests. That’s it. It’s nice because it tells me distance and speed. With this knowledge I was able to adjust pace from 15 minutes 2 mile to a 12 minute 2 mile time.

It’s about WHAT YOU EAT! 80% diet 20% fitness
Monitor what you eat try to eat 2000 – 2200 calories
Move more than 12000 steps a day
More protein less fat less sugar ?

These are all user issues, not device issues. The important part about these trackers, is that you have a good baseline for your activity. Then you know what you need to do to improve on your activity.

#1: These trackers make you think basic tasks that you should be doing anyway like standing and walking equate to actual exercise. Do some actual cardio and weight lifting if you want to get in shape people. It takes some effort.

Self discipline and your own motivation are needed for anything like this to work, the trackers just provide tooling to monitor progress.

They are named after exactly what they do- they track your fitness, not DO your fitness. They’re not called fat burners or weight losers. Fitness trackers equal fitness tracking. That’s all. They are not magic wands.

Perhaps he should’ve paired my fitnesspal or a food diary with the tracker?
Gaining 12lbs means he ate 42000 more calories than he burned. This piece should’ve focused on how people may be a little too eager to reward themselves for closing rings and using that as justification for overconsumption.

I feel that the Apple Watch has allowed me to maintain my weight (120 lbs ~) for the last three years because of my daily goals of a minimum of 1100 calories. The reminders and achievements allows me to go for long runs and hit up the gym. Without motivation it’s very easy to blame the watch or fitness tracker you’re wearing. As the reviewer mentioned it’s very easy to swipe the notification. Remember that you have to put the effort of you want to have that healthy lifestyle 🙂
