People have a choice of which ecosystem they want to live in. The argument is sad. It’s like saying, I drive a ford f150, but I want to have the rivian display in my truck.

Apple is a monopoly but google isn’t? I choose tho buy an iPhone, no one forced me. My car only runs one software… is that going to change too?

When you become smarter than the people who are ahead of you they get jealous. Apple hasn’t done anything wrong except do what everyone else wants to do. Be the best they can be and outsmart the rest in competition. In this case everyone wants some pie because the slice is so big it was never thought to ever exist. So sad to see.

But it’s garbage they are making U.S. buyers to use eSIM only, and every other county has a choice between eSIM and physical SIM card.

To downgrade an app on my iPad, I have to go through this rigamarole involving downloading an old version of iTunes, hijacking my own internet traffic to change the download request in real time, and then injecting it into my iPad with another program.

To recover a video I have on my iPad that was on an app that is no longer available on the App Store, I have to make a backup of my entire iPad and use a third-party program that has the capability to read these backups, and sift through the file system, and extract the video from protected folders, and then upload it to my iCloud and then download it BACK to my iPad.

If something happens to my iPad, and I need to reinstall iOS, I am forced to update my iOS AND all my apps to the latest version, no exceptions, AND I am forced to give up apps if they have been pulled from the App Store since I installed them, leading to potentially lost data.

If a service is cross-platform, if I want to avoid Apple’s 30% cut on a subscription or premium purchase, I have to first go to the website of the app, find their web store, make the purchase, and then sign in to my account on the app and import my purchases and subscriptions, which I cannot manage from the app.

I cannot download videos on my iPad. I have to find some workaround, a workaround which is constantly changing, but generally involves finding a downloader website which will actually give me a direct link to the video file, then finding an app which might or might not exist on the App Store at a given time and which may or may not have been patched out by Apple, that has the capability to download videos from a direct link and then export them to my Photos app.

My ability to listen to music is limited. Everything on iTunes is monetized, and it is hard to find third-party apps which let me download music from other sources. If I want to upload my own music to my Music app, I am forced to give up the music I may already have on iTunes. Third-party apps that can download and play music not on iTunes may or may not exist on the App Store. Apple plays whack-a-mole trying to get rid of them.

I cannot play all the games I want to on my iPad. The App Store is filled with scams and fake games and every iteration of every app on the entire App Store that has ads are filled with fake ads for fake games and scams. I have to sift through the garbage to find the ever-shrinking number of good games that are still on the App Store. I cannot download the games I want because Apple forbids it.

Why not just let me use the versions of apps I want to?
Why lock me out of MY OWN VIDEOS because the app got pulled or region-locked on the App Store?
Why not let me repair my iPad without shoehorning me into the latest version without my consent?
Why not let me just purchase my stuff from the apps I love without jacking up the price by 30% and without forcing me to manage it from the app and only from the app?
Why not just let me download videos I want to watch offline?
Why not let me listen to the music I want to?
Why not let me play the games I want to play?

The answer is that it would threaten Apple’s monopoly.

hear me out. on your apple laptop your not forced to used apple pay. but on your iphone you can pay with card directly to any food or physical product company app like amazon. but say a competitive software like epic games they can force them funnel money through apple pay/app store is kinda bs especially knowing epic spends money on outside card processing already. apple tax. why else would they take the liability of other card processing if it doesnt benefit them. third party apps sell the phone you dont only use apple apps. if they pick and choose the companies who need privacy on their platform thats not privacy. also you can download external programs on your mac but not your iphone because of the app store rule???? privacy yes, but also more money for them.

  12. @elementneon

    March 21, 2024 at 9:14 pm

Even speaking as a NON-Apple Fanboy I can say this lawsuit is outright B.S.. The U.S. government, claiming Apple’s platform makes things LESS secure than what they want? Insane considering we all know they have been pushing for government access backdoors in the software for years now. The U.S. government would love nothing more than to have a much less secure Apple ecosystem, in fact, would any of us be surprised if this whole lawsuit is an effort to try to force backdoor access in exchange for allowing them to operate within the United States, similar to how Microsoft changed with each iteration following their loss of the antitrust lawsuit?

Like the Green Bubbles. Tells me they got a crappy Android phone
Gov stay out of my tech

  14. @heyaisdabomb

    March 21, 2024 at 9:17 pm

PG&E is a monopoly, not Apple. We have no choice but to pay the 25% rate hike this year so far, with another 13% coming in September for 38% in 1 year. How are we (the Bay Area) going to power the development of our tech with these outrageous electricity prices? over 60 cents per kwh now…

  15. @adrianconstantin1132

How about allowing other appstores without Apple dictating their own rules about how the stores (and their apps) should work ?

  17. @drenathor

    March 21, 2024 at 9:21 pm

It’s almost like Android doesn’t exist and people have no alternatives and are being forced against their will to buy iphones… people know all of this when they buy into the apple eco system. Or does the government think that consumers arn’t capable of making their own intelligent choices? Wait… forget I said that. It’s the US government… of course they think that. Nevermind.

    • @MikhailJ

      March 21, 2024 at 9:26 pm

This is what I’m thinking right now with people saying they’re apple users and find things annoying when they could just buy a android phone

  18. @lionkingofthejungle

    March 21, 2024 at 9:21 pm

As an iOS developer i’d say Apple is definitely a monopoly. They prevent anyone from hosting app store and charge developers exorbitant fees… any transaction on iPhone MUST use apple payment system and apple charges 30% fee or app is rejected from app store. They do this of course not because they’re greedy but for safety and security of their customers. Lately they started building apps like Journaling, Fitness, Freeform, Notes which will kill other apps in the those categories. Startups spend lots of money on customer acquisition, apple just pre-installs apps with iOS and yes they also control search in App Store… there’s simply no way anyone would be able to compete. I think the greatest threat to apple is not antitrust lawsuit, they will find corrupt officials to resolve this, the biggest problem is developers will stop building great apps and will move to different platforms.

  19. @tenslider6722

    March 21, 2024 at 9:23 pm

    GoogleMap should be next.

  20. @pharaohcaesar

    March 21, 2024 at 9:23 pm

Smart phones should generally become cheaper over time just like the calculator. But Apple doesn’t want to sell their phones at cheaper prices so they do these tactics to force people to purchase their phones at very high prices. With the tech as it is now all smart phones should be selling for less than $500 because tech always gets cheaper over time and there isn’t much of a way to make a better smart phone so the sales price should steadily drop but that is not the case with Apple phones because of these tactics. Eventually all smart phones should be selling for less than $200 because that’s the way tech works. So Apples competition understands this so they are selling smart phones at cheaper prices making Apple phones look ridiculously expensive so Apple puts in these measures to try and protect their ability to sell smart phones at exorbitant prices. That is Apple’s obvious motivation for doing this so the government needs to focus on that point to explain why Apple is acting this way to convince the court. If the DOJ is successful Apple will be forced to sell their phones at more competitive prices which is good for the consumer. Apple will go the way of Betamax if they don’t get their act together.

The government is always trying to put their hangs in everything. Also, if you want the Android experience, go with Android. If you want the Apple experience, go with them. Quit trying to get Apple to change. If the gets their way, they better go after all the other Android Phone makers and make it to where it’s the same standards. I want the Apple experience on my Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra right meow!!!!!! 😂

People used Chrome and Firefox instead of Internet explorer, now Edge has improved a lot. Competitors make the company do better. There are many better accessories manufacturers, who make products better than what Apple or Samsung does.

imessage is a stretch, but apple anti repair should be brought up. also why isnt PG&E hit with an anti-trust lawsuit, the have an monopoly as well, i don’t see any other companies delivering electricity.

Apple needs to be scrubbed, cleaned and peeled properly. Time they did it.

  37. @terranceblount5959

    March 22, 2024 at 7:08 pm

All I can say is as a consumer, I have choices. Two to be exact. And I CHOSE the walled garden. My Android friends use what they use and we connect by other means. Apple is popular for a reason and NO OTHER COMPANY has gotten the seamless experience right. Making Apple like everyone else takes away MY CHOICE of what I view is a better experience.

I will say the DOJ is onto something if Apple charges 30% to developers in which they compete. However, let me make something clear. I rather pay an extra fee for a better, cleaner experience than that I see on Android.

  38. @Zealor365

  41. @ghostmandka5498

    March 22, 2024 at 7:28 pm

We use Apple products because they work and work well. And they work with all of their products seamlessly. Start this crap of forcing Apple to ensure the same experience with other manufacturers and you’re just asking for it to quit working.

  42. @KelvinF

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 pm

I always get impressed on how powerful Apple is. I mean, “restricting” some of its products/services only for its people could be a very risky move, because people would leave the brand completely, not just a product, if not satisfied!!
    BUT
What happens is really the opposite!!
People do stay because they simply love it!

I know it might be hard to some 60 years old people to understand.

PS.: I understand when it comes to the developer side, Apple might have come a little heavy, but when it comes to ecosystem is really what I said before. ⬆

  43. @beachbumsailordude

    March 22, 2024 at 7:46 pm

People keep buyint the Apple products as competitors products surpass Apple’s. It’s only a matter of time before the IPhone goes the way of the SONY Walkman.

  44. @pher8902

    March 22, 2024 at 7:58 pm

Imo the I message thing is the weakest example they brought up.

The Apple Pay, the Apple Watch both seem like more logical problems.

The same thing with the apps store. I really should be able to buy an app on iPhone and use it on android if it’s in the future.

  45. @robertvazquez2964

    March 22, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Apple fans still gonna buy Apple products

  46. @benoitcloutier8803

    March 22, 2024 at 8:25 pm

How dare you apple! Why don’t you spend loads of money to make your products compatible with the competition! Seriously, they could fix the messaging thing and let sideloading available.
