It’s like a perfume harmonica for your nose, for video games? 🌸🧐 We’ll explain.

Omara (anagram of “aroma” — get it?) by OVR Technologies is a compact, portable device for video games that is programmed to “display” or release a mix of fragrances from a scent cassette with a subtle puff of air, based on your in-game interactions. CNET social producer Faith Chihil was amazed that the scents didn’t linger for long and didn’t feel overpowering, as she played a modded level of Minecraft that incorporated smells like cherry blossoms, campfire, wet grass, and even an interesting scent to indicate her health was going low.

OVR is working with game developers to make scent part of the gaming narrative, using Omara’s Unreal and Unity plug-ins.

Omara is coming to consumers in 2026 along with a suite of compatible games, price TBD.

Would you give this a whiff? #omara #videogames #weirdtech #fragrance #perfume

Tele-scents. Would be cool if it produces the smell of freshly spilled blood, dead bodies, and gunsmoke.

I guess this will be something that would work well with a VR headset for more immersive gameplay. Next up, haptic feedback bodysuit like in Ready Player One
