Hi, I’m a digital artist who super hates ai art! Let’s focus on his last point, which is the victims! He specifically mentions the musician who’s song he is riffing, but i understand it make it sound like there’s no other possible victims! But victims does include both people who’s work was stolen (as is the case with ai art) and the people who are affected by, say, ai data centers. Not all “ai” uses up an excess of power. The term “ai” is basically nonsense at this point. AI is not inherently bad! But if there are victims, then the victims must be consulted for whether or not it is bad. That is why this person specifies that the ai he uses only results in one victim, the original song’s creator, and those victims don’t consider themselves as such. All that goes to say: if it is harming people, it is bad. But not all things labeled ai are harming people. And it is possible to use those resources. And this ted talk explains it more thoroughly but you’d have to watch the whole tedtalk. Remember you shouldn’t disagree OR agree without full information. This ted talk is literally trying to tell you, you don’t know some things about ai, let me teach you. If you really care and want to know about ai and how it can help and hurt, maybe give it a watch!

I have. The largest consumers are going to be your corporate entities. You can run a very reasonable 8b or 20b model on your local machine, and I guarantee that the response does not use up as much energy as “a glass of water” or whatever. Same applies for image or music generation.

Amazon, Anthropic, Meta… these companies are doing thousands of completions a second to replace entire workforces with layers and layers of AI agents each fine tuned for specific tasks in great swirling electromagnetic artificial thought.

I use a slightly modified llama.cpp that counts tokens, and I “charge” myself at that old 0.002¢ pet token. And can usually get myself up to $4-5 by the end of a workday.
At work, where I need a dashboard to monitor all of my agents, I keep the same tally and often “spend” $200-300 a work day. Multiply that by the 1,000’s of non-human agents and… well… get off this guy’s back.

From what I’ve seen of his work, I don’t think he’s putting a huge demand on corporate AI data centers. AI is a bunch of different things, including tools that existed before the generative AI boom of the last few years. I would speculate his “carbon footprint” is no larger than anyone running a high-end gaming PC.

    • @xPastafarian

      November 8, 2025 at 6:42 am

The onus of responsible AI use is on companies, not the individual.

    • @DaimyoD0

      November 8, 2025 at 9:56 am

@xPastafarian At least regarding environmental impact, I agree. It’s very similar to the whole situation where corporate interests shift the responsibility of plastic waste onto the consumer by accusing them of being “litterbugs” or not recycling, or oil interests shifting responsibility onto consumers with ideas of the “carbon footprint.” That’s not to say I wouldn’t also implore my friends to recycle, not litter and do their best not to waste fuel. But at the end of the day, individual decisions make up the smallest fraction of the total effect vs the effect of large-scale regulation.
When it comes to people using AI in willfully deceitful or exploitative ways, I think the matter of personal responsibility could be more nuanced. But wishing people will use tools more responsibly will always be less effective than altering the way those tools themselves can be used.

AI is an oxymoron. Nothing artificial can have intelligence. Because intelligence takes spirit.

    • @theblacktezcatliopca

      November 7, 2025 at 10:34 pm

Why? That claim can’t really be backed up evidentialy.

      Intelligence doesn’t require spirit.
      Emotions and feelings do.

    • @theblacktezcatliopca

      November 8, 2025 at 8:28 am

@rayokasali What are emotions? What are feelings? Why do they require spirit? To me they are just the ability to analyze the heap in the context of the contextual stack. To that point, what is spirit?

brother i spoke with you a couple years ago. what software do you use to build a voice model and upload your voice to them? i cant find the reply you sent me before. I love your work, but im actually looking to complete a song that has no vocals by a friend who was a musician. he drowned before he had a chance to lay down the vocals. ive been asked to try to do this….to complete the song. not only with my own voice, but to clone his voice and do what you do! Can you help me man! Thanks so much. Love your channel so much lol. congrats on Ted Talk!

As a general rule, if technology made the sounds but you decided the notes, harmonies, chords, and everything, then you wrote the song and technology made the sound. That’s the way it’s always been, from the first string instrument to the synthesizer. But once you hand over creative decisions to an AI, it’s like, what’s the point anymore? You’re not engaged at all in the act of creation, you just wanted to skip to the part where there’s finished content to consume or distribute.

I’m a musician who enjoys PEOPLE thinking- when it happens… I truly enjoy what you do, and appreciate the integrity (or tasteful lack thereof) of its execution – yes, that IS humor. I am quite uncomfortable with AI, primarily because it further inhibits human thought- which not only is sorely sparing, but it also might turn around and bite us someday.
