“I taught rats to drive cars, but they taught me to enjoy the ride” #TEDTalks
What can happy rats teach us about human joy? Behavioral neuroscientist Kelly Lambert describes how her team trained rats to drive tiny cars to earn treats — and noticed something surprising about how effort and anticipation affect the brain. The experiment opens new questions about how reward, agency and “behaviorceuticals” might help build resilience and…

How about we defund Capitalism? Never was a good economic system. The single greatest tyrannical system ever created by human beings.

It’s not the best, but what is your alternative? If you advocate getting rid of something, you have to equally be in favor of a type of replacement.

A job doesn’t give me purpose. A job doesn’t give me dignity. A job gives me enough money so I can sustain life and do the things I want. I’d be more than content with just rescuing animals, making bird houses and watching movies until I die. Lots of Communists and Capitalists think that having a job is the only motivation in life, How sad.

TED is just brazenly capitalist class propaganda now, with weak “humanist” branding. “Civic minded capitalist,” and it’s just rehashed neoliberalism.

What jobs is she talking about purpose, dignity, and pride? I’ve yet to find a job that doesn’t remind you you’re replaceable, you’re free time isn’t respected, you have to be accountable but when it comes to higher ups that’s not our place, and don’t get me started on HR/OSHA violations in the name of reaching quotas that only really rewards the managers while we get a meal party.

It isn’t exactly the people. More precisely the expense line item payroll, which is usually one of the biggest expenses. The point of AI is to minimize that expense, but ironically that also means eliminating customers too. It is circle logic if you think about it
@michelleb7911
May 3, 2026 at 7:34 pm
Yeah,no ,work isn’t purpose, work isn’t dignity. Work is a means to an end. You have to work to live a comfortable life. Purpose is family, other people, yourself, your pets, your hobbies, purpose is life outside of work. As someone who uses AI frequently in my day to day corporations are putting far too much stock in it by eliminating headcount, frankly they are using it as more of an excuse in order to fool stockholders.

Universal Basic Income represents the only viable short-term remedy. While education is vital for the next generation, dismissing UBI through the ‘dignity’ argument is a detachment from reality that undermines the search for a functional solution.

The government doesn’t care about American’s being prepared, or making the country stronger and more competitive, if they did college would be a lot more affordable
@joshbradstreet1736
May 3, 2026 at 11:05 pm
Totally disagree. What you want to do is give government money to businesses and hope that makes everyone’s life bearable but most of us have seen how this works out. BUI should be to cover everyone’s basic needs ,food ,shelter medicine and education. Then watch what people do with their spare time. But government doesn’t want us to have time. Time gives us opportunity to question and plan. Governments worldwide are in the business of keeping us down at the behest of the greedy elite!

My job doesnt define who I am. UBI or people will suffer
@goosie8207
May 4, 2026 at 2:04 am
UBI is what will provide dignity and freedom to billions around the world who are exploited by the greedy, who have no choice in their work, who can’t do things that truely give their lives meaning. Capitalism is what takes away purpose and dignity from people, not providing the basics so they can live their best lives.
@jamvan1000
May 4, 2026 at 3:45 am
UBI is the only viable solution and AI should be destroyed and thrown amongst the cosmos
@stevenporter863
May 4, 2026 at 6:55 am
The problem with that (ignoring AI) is that the rest of the world won’t. Then the rest of the world and developing countries will be moving like a rocket while the US would be horse back.

Every single ai company ive heard of is either inept or evil. if ai cant tell how many r’s are in strawberry, if its idea of art is flat out stealing other peoples work. If it can lie to you then say “what are you gonna do? Start over and maybe i wont lie again”, the companies behind the AI bubble have to be inept or evil. (im sure theres probably 1 or 2 good ones, ive never heard of 1 making a good decision for people)
That doesnt even begin to hit on the resource drain. Have you tried to buy computer parts? Or seen that we have 5000 data centers and at current usage, we could survive easily with less than 3k and still have a buffer of 15% “space” (for storage or processing) in each one? That feels like a lot of wasted land, water, and power.
Theres exceptionally few good uses for ai. Why do we continue to bury our heads in the sand and let these companies do what ever?

She seems to not understand that universal income would be enough to live on but not enough to thrive on. So people would work but in jobs they want, so they could have a better life. I like the idea of insensitiving companies to do the right thing.
