@gamingfromjohnwayne Yeah, but with PC games that can be played offline there’s a greater chance of you being able to get a version that you can backup to an archive. Also multiple stores out there for PC games. You aren’t just locked in to one store like Playstation. And Sony just killed the PS3 and Vita stores.

This is literally the worst spent money ever. You can still buy a used prebuilt that outperforms this tiny box for days with better compute and gpu. My advice walk away from this toaster until it goes in a mega sale. It’s not worth more than 600-700 bucks

You can easily build a 8.1 liter PC for this price that is over twice as fast and load up steam OS on it. You can build even cheaper if you don’t care about size of PC.

the product isnt the machine itself but steam OS. You could build your own for 800 900 and get much better performance, OG price was suppose to be 750 starting but yay AI. That being said, insane price for Series S performance indeed…..

Consoles sell at a loss to keep you trapped in their ecosystem and you can’t do what you want with it and you are required to upgrade when the new gen console comes out if you want to play next generation games so it’s not really comparable to consoles since it’s a PC that’s open sourced.
So I think the right comparison is to think of it as a Linux based Mac mini but will have better gaming support with steam os cause like Apple Valve is designing the software and also building the hardware so it will get excellent support and it will run smoothly with no tinkering required if you don’t want to as Linus said about steam os running in desktop mode on the steam machine “you can just be a user and not a tinkerer” cause valve has teams of people that are paid to make sure all the hardware and software work properly together not just for gaming but the whole os for a excellent overall experience. If you don’t care about that stuff then to you this could be garbage but to someone else it could be an amazing all in one machine that they have always been wanting for the reasons above but the biggest winner is steam os in all this eventually getting more adoption over windows building your own “steam machine”

@untasty4215they are selling consoles for $800 plus now. I’d say an open source pc/console is worth it. You guys are so caught up on benchmarks when the real question should be “does it play my games” and “am I having fun”. Nintendo releases “underpowered” hardware all the time and no one bats an eye because of the two questions I asked above.
