I just spent $300-$500 a week this past month on groceries! I couldn’t even believe it! If this was just on food it would be insane. I’m also talking about pet necessities, elderly care items, and just regular needs. It’s ridiculous. I think back to my grandmother who had to split a can of tomato soup between 9 children during the great depression. We are not there yet but I don’t know how others are doing it.

2:40 I think that money (and other valuables) would be obsolete if no one is getting paid. We would have economies based on purely on property and services(consensual labor or not). If Democrats ever get a supermajority again, the first thing they should do is pass a constitutional amendment that restricts total political contributions to the mean average income in America, and ban all other contributions. Each person, $67,000 (max today), no other way to donate but to volunteer time. No dark money. No corporate contributions.

The only fix I can see is to tax companies LESS based on the number of FT workers they employ w/LIVABLE wages (not like Walmart staff dependent on food stamps & other safety-net programs). And the fewer workers you have vis-a-via your profit? You pay MORE taxes to pay for safety net resources, health care, infrastructure, education, worker training, etc. And perhaps eventually a UBI.

America isn’t just an oligarchy. It’s a CIVIL oligarchy. This is important. This is what ancient Greece was and it didn’t end well. The Guardian did an article addressing it.
The good news, if you can call it that, is at least that’s one of two “unarmed” oligarchy. Civil (the entire legal/political system) and sultanistic (it’s who you know).
The two armed versions are warlord (single) and mafia-type (family). In that system, you can be murdered for speaking up.

I have been a Bernie fan for 25 years. I wonder if Bernie or someone else has thought of using the government as the banking system. Every time you buy something a small percentage goes to the government. We could have government credit cards charging the same rate as the major cards, and instead of giving the money to oligarchs it goes to the government. Homes, cars, whatever, could be financed by the power of the treasury rather than a bank. People who use the card could be given credit for its use, to be used for further purchases or even a tax break. I wonder if that is economically feasible? Please don’t bore me with capitalistic boogeymen who say the government couldn’t do it. That’s just more B.S. to make us think we need them.

I think its time to introduce Universal Basic Income (UBI). I mean if there is extreme wealth inequality as Mr. Sanders say and what the data shows, there should be someone to buy the products and services of billionaires right?
I used to think that Capitalism is somewhat the right economic system but that was without taking AI into the equation. Now that we have AI taking over jobs, why don’t we implement UBI? Billionaires can enjoy their extreme wealth and regular consumers can attain their essential needs. Isn’t that a win-win?

How your’e government is making Americans poorer is not random, I think. Like it’s not just being greedy to get richer. I’ts probably done deliberately. For control.
It’s a very common strategy Authoritarian regimes have used throughout history. Weaponizing poverty to maintain control. Keeping people poor means energy needs to spent on just surviving, without energy or time to fight the oppressors.
The irony thought is how Trumps own supporters, many of them, are also getting poorer. Something many of them are realising, but STILL say they would vote Trump again..

Canada has free health care but we still face all of these same issues. And our health care system is hanging on by a thread because our conservative politicians are trying to privatize everything. Housing, food end education are all extremely expensive. Addictions are rampant and the unhoused are everywhere in every town and city. Employment rates are declining or stagnant. We have our own oligarchs like Galen Weston and family, plus we have to deal with yours and your insane president.

Before you were forced to take a knee to Clinton, you should know you had and still have the support of my entire generation. It’s not just the Citizens United Case. The Supreme Court just decided in another case that policial parties can spend unlimited funds on candidate’s racism, eroding yet another limit on the power of money in deciding who our political system represents. How much right to free speech you have is now equal to how much money you can spend. If you’re rich, your speech counts for a whole lot more. money = speech, speech = money, the Supreme Court decided once more.

I remember when Hilary Clinton was running (against Sanders) and a NYT article said that the new democratic party (under her) was a fusion of Wall Street and identity politics groups, which the writer thought was good. Like Bernie says, we need a democratic party that fights for all workers and all people, not just Wall Street. (You could say the GOP is also a fusion of Wall Street and the richest Americans and identity politics as well. Both sides have used identity politics to divide people).

Mr. Sanders… Even though I’m Canadian, I’ve been following you for a while… That said, I don’t care about your age, about the votes you previously won (or didn’t) or even the fact that I don’t have a say in the matter (again, being Canadian)…but let me tell you this : you would’ve been an extraordinary president, heck, ANY nation would be lucky to have a man like you as its leader… Truly, you CARE about your fellow citizens, and I don’t think you would be able to hide it, even though I suspect such a thing would never cross your mind… Keep speaking up, let’s hope people will keep on listening… 😊
