I see some comments starting to pop about China server or this is spying.
I would say, face the reality. Most things in the world now is made by China (cost is key), secondly with the tech world we are in now (eg FB/Google/Amazon), who doesn’t spy???

Was addressed by the company a long time ago. They’re pretty transparent about all the things that have gone on, and that builds trust within the community.

I have 4 Wyze cams (indoor)
Cons- new, needs more support, needs more shortcuts
Pros- everything a big brand can can do, night vision, specific zone detection many more!
BUT it does the BASICS AMAZINGLY! I recommend for any person to get wyze brand!

Could you just keep it plugged in? Or can you now do that? I got a ring cam and I just run a USB wire into my shed and have it plugged in. Never have to worry about charging it. Can you do that with this cam?

July 27, 2020 at 7:47 pm
@David Collett WYZE said it voids the warranty.

July 27, 2020 at 8:06 pm
@Bernie H Thanks, Bernie. Maybe it burns out the battery or circuitry if left plugged in? That’s too bad, as a power option would have been great.
Kim Hedrick
July 27, 2020 at 9:46 pm
@David Collett If you have a cable plugged in to the camera the cover over the charge port that makes it weather proof is not installed so water could get inside.
David Collett
July 27, 2020 at 10:34 pm
Kim Hedrick Thanks, Kim. Perhaps some users or another company will figure out a waterproof housing for it that would allow it to remain plugged in.

I believe they say 4 outdoor camps can run on one base. Indoors don’t need a base to run.

Great video but this camera has too many limitations. If I seriously cannot keep power plugged in constantly then that’s a hard pass for me.

Not being able to quickly replace the battery is an issue that @Wyze has to fix …..before I will buy this security camera.

It is pretty surprising that so many of these wireless cameras don’t have batteries you can swap out.

July 28, 2020 at 5:58 pm
It’s a $40 camera if you have to take it down every 3 to 6 months to charge it that’s pretty good deal no other wireless outdoor camera is anywhere near that price range

July 28, 2020 at 8:17 pm
Bro just buy an extra to temporarily replace a unit that is being charged (for less than 1 hour supposedly)

July 28, 2020 at 11:17 pm
Tajer I live in a state in a country with the highest electricity costs in the world, so recharging devices is not a good idea for me. Like you I prefer a quick change over with batteries so there is no down time with the camera and it’s less expensive…..for me.

The non-removable or replaceable camera is a deal-breaker. Very unfortunate because I was ready to pull the trigger and order one half-way through the video. Batteries much faster than cameras will. No sense adding to landfills an entire working camera because the battery no longer holds a charge.

Wyze creates great products! I wish they add ability for faster playback speed of recordings in their phone software.

July 28, 2020 at 2:19 am
The video makes it sound like you have to unscrew the camera from the wall to charge it… The base is magnetic and the camera simply sticks to the base and can be removed for 20-40 mins for charging.

I wonder how this compares to the “zumimall” wireless camera…It’s very similar. The regular price for that is $79.99….but it could be had for a tag over $60 after coupon now on amazon. It’s “amazon’s choice” and has a lot of good reviews.

Not continuous recording is the biggest downside.
Jhonnatan R
July 28, 2020 at 6:21 am
You didn’t mention it only records 12 second clips and it needs 1 min to cool down before recording another 12 second clip. As a security camera that’s a major problem since you can easily miss what’s happening, someone’s face or license plate number during that cool down period. 12 seconds is just not enough

So if you go on 2 weeks vacation and the battery runs out. There will many days without any footage. It’s painful getting up the ladder every time to get it charge. You gotta get the ladder in and out.

ontinuously recording to a micro SD card like Wyze Cam v2 will make the battery life extremely short. Because of this, we did not build this feature and Wyze Cam v2 is still the best option for this use case. However, we did build a “Scheduled Recording” feature where you can schedule specific times for the camera to continuously record to its local micro SD card or record when PIR is triggered though this will reduce battery life. This feature combined with Travel Mode will allow you to take the camera anywhere to record anything you want even if there is no WiFi available.
