The true test is to have Ken Block test them if they do pass the test to then I’ll be willing to buy 🙂

If these ever become viable, I feel like the first car company to adopt them would be Tesla.

By the time these are really rolled out for the most of cars I’ll probably be too old to still drive (51 now).

All excellent questions posed. Low profile tyres… 4X4 tyres?

Sounds like something I will be checking out as soon as it it is released that is.

This thing will never make it to market. It’s a vaporware. Those gaps are serious liabilities.

The biggest question for me is what’s the weight difference? If they’re a lot heavier, they’ll hurt both performance and efficiency greatly.

  11. Michael Crumpton

    October 8, 2021 at 9:22 pm

I remember seeing articles in popular science back in the mid 80’s about these tires. Color me skeptical.

Less tires in landfills? What are they going to burn in the Springfield City Dump at the beginning of The Simpsons?

  16. Karl Kelly

Wouldn’t this be bad for tire repair shops?

  17. leeamessage

    October 8, 2021 at 11:27 pm

Remember, these tires can not be too much better because they make money when people buy more and have to keep buying replacements.

  18. Ben Zhu

    October 8, 2021 at 11:55 pm

These will never make it to the market. This would kill their sales of tires

  19. DjSharperimage

    October 8, 2021 at 11:58 pm

It’s been 10 or 20 years since they have been talking about releasing these tires. Just release them already, because I would buy it.

Would go great with a 40 mph government mandated speed limit. Helmet mandate too cant forget helmets . Wisconsin Cheese helmet for me and 6 pack to go.. One more beer for the road.

  22. Samuloflipsitup

    October 9, 2021 at 12:44 am

I assume it’s a prototype. People are talking about “snow getting caught inside the tires” but I think if it was for actual use, the veins wouldn’t show they would be the interior of the tires, and it would be surrounded by rubber.

  23. Noneya Biznez

    October 9, 2021 at 12:47 am

What happens when you live up north, and get in your car when its been parked in frozen ice/snow over night, and the gaps in the tire are completely full of ice?

  24. Carlos Carter

    October 9, 2021 at 12:53 am

How will the performance be in the winter with snow in those veins.

  25. Fulton Barrons

    October 9, 2021 at 1:05 am

My wonder is if they can withstand a cold and Icy, snowy winter.

  26. The Shark

    October 10, 2021 at 7:02 am

Are they really gonna sell puncture-proof tires with no sidewall, all open like that? Why not close it up so it’s smooth-looking? Imagine all the dirt and rocks that’ll get in there. Having it open is kinda ugly too.. It appears unfinished, like a cutaway. How come no one is talking about this? I am the weirdo in the room?

  27. Vishesh Bhuptani

    October 10, 2021 at 9:01 am

What about the mileage of the car? These tyres look like they are much flatter at the point of contact between the tyre and road – which is higher surface area in contact – so higher the friction and lower mileage. This is not an issue with normal tyres because at the right air pressure, the friction is minimal – but in these tyres, it might be an issue.

  28. Budd Margolis

If these turn out to be really good, I hope government mandates them along with the electric car switch over.

  31. Amjo

    October 10, 2021 at 10:12 am

I love it but looks like it’s going to be a pain cleaning debris that are stuck between the gaps. Hopefully they will figure that out before making it available for all to use

  32. chud67bbc

    October 10, 2021 at 11:45 am

Why has it taken so long? We’ve seen this type of tire for decades. Oh, that’s right, no need to replace tires? Less profit.

  38. T.C. B

    October 10, 2021 at 5:03 pm

I know a guy who has these kinds of tires on his lawnmower. He does nothing but complain about how much they suck. He gets stuck much easier, especially when making turns. They appear to have a significantly larger ground contact footprint, which makes me wonder if fuel economy will be reduced. I’m also not sold on the noise/ride comfort aspect.

  39. Arvin Peopleinlove

  41. TicTac Tech

    October 10, 2021 at 7:19 pm

So what’s in it for Michelin? They don’t just innovate without their shareholders say

  42. DMan 9971

    October 10, 2021 at 7:33 pm

My only problem with these is how stupidly long it’s been shown and talked about without a single option on the market for purchase. It’s nearly to the point of being stupidly infuriating that we’re still stuck with air-filled tires.

  43. Kevin Portillo

    October 10, 2021 at 7:51 pm

Snow, dust and mud. Will these have some kind of covering layer?

  44. Nahani Yes

  46. You Tube

Why would they want to lower their sales by producing something that lasts longer.

  47. Paul Fulgencio

they have been available for a couple years for ATV side by side s, up to 2x the cost, spacers may be needed to fit proper, my friend having a tire store says he is scared of them, like CROCKS they don’t wear out

  50. Dave K

    October 11, 2021 at 12:55 am

I can see these being like the Ford/Firestone Air pressure fiasco. Whats gonna be the life of the tread? Who is gonna try and retread these? Oh boy. Better hold on for the increase of crashes.

    “Twheels”

  54. planker

    October 11, 2021 at 11:40 am

How hot does this wheel get? lots of moving parts. Drag coefficient might compare to a wet mop. And where it might delaminate is obvious.

  55. diecastcarguyforlife Stanley Morgan

    October 11, 2021 at 12:24 pm

Yah well somebody else invented this Michelin has bought it and put it on the shelf for at least 10 to 15 years now when are they going to release it? There are so many great products that have been invented but these companies won’t release them. And they will fight you in court to keep them from being released.

  56. Mateo F

    October 11, 2021 at 12:39 pm

These are awesome, but the Wisconsin people want to know, ”what happens when you park in a winter slush puddle and overnight it freezes in and around that open sidewall?”

  57. abgbdwlf

    October 11, 2021 at 1:51 pm

What about ability to be recycled?

  58. LizardVideoDude

    October 11, 2021 at 3:23 pm

How long will these new tires last? You know Michelin isn’t going to make a tire that does not have to be replaced after some amount of mileage.

  63. BADD1ONE

Bent rims will disable the vehicle. These tires would be situational. 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

  64. Anay Makan

    October 11, 2021 at 6:25 pm

Surely they will lose so many tire sales if they do this

  65. S B

    October 11, 2021 at 7:30 pm

its easy to figure out the cost. Take the cost of the 200 million tires saved and split it over the cost of a normal tire. They aren’t innovating to lose money.

  66. Bob Cook

    October 11, 2021 at 7:55 pm

The thing is that air tires surrounds a whole industry around the tire with air it’s not the new technology it’s already here it’s the industry that needs to change money?.

  67. Jose O

    October 11, 2021 at 8:25 pm

I think this tires should be stiffer. Imagine when you brake the wheel is just going bend that it might cause an accident. Also those openings in the tires might toss youre car in the air if its gets windy.

  68. Doug Hull

    October 11, 2021 at 8:39 pm

The concept is great, however…. sidewalls are absolutely necessary preventing foreign objects from entering?! They are! I drove an ATV with those tires, they worked, but after sliding around corners, medium sized rocks entered & needing to be extracted. Additional trailside maintenance, no thanks!
In a cold environment when ice would absolutely accumulate within those open tires on a car, severe imbalance? Yes!! Wow, Michelin isn’t considering the the obvious.? Driving in slush, arriving home in a Connecticut winter, getting up in the morning & your open sidewall tire is half filled with ice? Getting it freed up by whatever means, & time, then large chunks could still be sticking out on the inside ripping out brake lines on the first tire rotation, is Michelin considering any of this?
The concept is great, however in my humble opinion… sidewalls, a structural benefit.. & a filtered venting system are a necessity!
I like a smooth cruise, Yabba Dabba Doo.😉

  69. daft punk

Yeah…no. cool concept but rubber is a better alternative to plastic or glastic in my opinion.

  70. Everett Whiteman

    October 11, 2021 at 9:41 pm

Great until you drive through snow, sand, mud, etc and the gaps fill up with whatever you drove through and mess up your car with the imbalance of weight

  71. Jonathan Butts

    October 11, 2021 at 9:43 pm

These types of tires have been in the tube for a very long time ! ………and it’s a very very long tube ! ………..I spotted a typo, it should read 2074 and not 2024. Keep your air compressor handy !

Someone’s always trying to reinvent the wheel. This idea is as old as dirt and it still hasn’t made it to market for everyday vehicles.

  90. Wendy Harbon

    October 12, 2021 at 7:54 pm

If these Airless tyres/wheels, save tens of millions of old tyres landing up in landfills each year, then paying a few more Dollars, or Pounds and/or Euro’s for each new Airless tyres/wheels, it is worth it, if only to save the environment if no other benefits!

  91. ForestNinjaZero

    October 12, 2021 at 8:18 pm

We also want to know how much traction they’ll get in launch mode, and how many varieties will be required for the full range of loads and vehicle classes. One great thing about air-filled tires, is that you can calculate or adjust ‘hardness’ by air volume/pressure, and density of material.

  92. AbSalute Sage

    October 12, 2021 at 8:29 pm

What about variations in temperature? I imagine it’ll feel more stiff in the cold and soft in the heat.

  93. Arcadia

    October 12, 2021 at 9:26 pm

You can’t have an open sidewall because of contamination, snow, dirt etc that will also create serious imbalances.

  94. LR Vogt

    October 12, 2021 at 9:33 pm

I’d like to see what happens when a puddle freezes around the tire and in these spokes. There will need to be a cover to keep ice and debris out. How long do the spokes remain flexible and what happens when the treads wear out?

  95. glenn alexon

    October 12, 2021 at 11:19 pm

    That’s still air.

It will be an expensive on the pocket and will not take off.

  99. 7jeanius7

    October 13, 2021 at 1:14 am

I remember them coming out with this like 10 years ago. I am sure tire companies do not want these out on the roads because it would be terrible for business. And money and greed will always win out.
