Motorola Edge Plus (2022) Review: There’s a Lot to Like

There’s a lot to like about the new Motorola Edge Plus. Not only is it the first truly premium phone that Motorola has launched in the US since 2020, but the 2022 version of the Edge Plus packs a big battery, a high-refresh-rate display and multiple rear cameras and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. If those specs sound similar it’s because phones from Samsung and OnePlus have nearly identical ones.

What makes the Edge Plus stand out are the excellent ways Motorola’s software additions complement a near-untouched version of Android 12. Add in some of the best cameras found on any Motorola phone ever and the Edge Plus seems like a must-buy. But the $1,000 price is where things get complicated.

I’ve enjoyed my motorola edge 2020 and would buy this if I wasn’t making the switch to iphone (androids lack of long term updates and stability annoy me)

I m from Delhi , India …My relatives stay in Boston , Whenever they come home back in Delhi , one thing they always wonder , when Android phones r really gonna break through tightly integrated iphone market in US . Except for Samsung , there’s really no choice for consumers , like Verizon looked iphones r so common . Something we really wish , Oppo , Vivo , Xaiomi , Motorola , Google Pixel , OnePlus …. r so good n competitive 🔥🔥US consumers r so deprived of cutting edge tech for the price they r paying. it’s so Uncool 🔥🔥

Great review a always mate. As for the gmail and browser being cropped in landscape. That happens on the Google pixel 6 and 6 pro as well. There’s no way of enabling full screen apps in settings.

  32. andyH_England

    March 25, 2022 at 10:47 am

That is a tough sell, $1000 pre-deals, seems way out there. With no zoom, this is more like mid-tier, that $500-700 segment, competing with the Pixel 6, S21FE, etc. I suppose in a month or so it will drop to that price as demand and supply equalise, but knowing Motorolas software update record it would remain a hard buy for me.

I was enjoying your video and eagerly waiting for your reveal regarding usage at 920 frames per second prior to my asking if this used software interpolation to gain 920 FPS or can the hardware actually do 920 FPS. Your laps to address that topic has me expecting it to be interpreted; however, you blew my mind at the end with that out of the clear blue remark of “if you don’t keep your damn mouth shut”! I viewed this review as a four-star quality review and had a good vibe until THAT end of review pompous comment that I can keep my damn mouth shut”! Congratulations as that both earned you a thumbs down as well as pounding that unsubscribe button.

  39. Kevin Martinez

    March 25, 2022 at 3:43 pm

$1,000? Dude my s21fe cost me $700 and is just as good and it actually shoots in 4k 60fps

  40. Dean Thompson

    March 25, 2022 at 4:06 pm

Thanks, Patrick for the review. The question with any Motorola phone is, how many years of OS and Security Updates will the consumer be receiving? This has been a huge disappointment for me, with the Moto G Power 2020, just one OS Update, and not even two years of Security Updates. At this price point, I would need at least 3 OS Updates and 4 Years of Security Updates. Also, the audio needs to be very good, the screen needs to be much brighter. The bloatware is a concern, as well. I will need to think about this. Thanks, CNET.

      Haha they won’t

    • Ryan Smith

      March 26, 2022 at 6:35 am

With Motorola you will NOT be receiving 3 years of anything. You’ll be lucky to get 1 OS update and maybe 1 or 2 security updates a year

  41. Richard Layne

    March 25, 2022 at 4:44 pm

But do they update the Android OS and add security patches, that’s never been a priority with Motorola phones at least not with any that I’ve owned.

In Asia, this is priced as a flagship killer. 12gb 256gb goes for slightly under USD600. Likewise the Realme GT2 Pro.

  46. James Collins

    March 26, 2022 at 2:26 am

Android phones are already a ‘fail’ since people found out Apple has the longest OS version supported phone in World History…. The 6S !!! iOS 9 thru 15 !!! People are still using the 6S after 7 LONG YEARS !!! WoW!!! 😆 That’s how long Apple supports their products !!!! And Android users are lucky if they get only one update past the original OS. Honestly … that’s stupid!

I was always a big Motorola fan and would choose their phones over the competition even over the more popular Galaxy phones. My issue tho, and it’s a BIG issue, is that Motorola is notoriously awful at updating their phones to the latest Android security patch let along a system software update. My last Motorola phone was the Z Force and went to the Galaxy S10+ for my upgrade. Never looked back because Motorola phones are nothing but mediocrity nowadays. You’ll be lucky to get a security update once a year from Motorola. Samsung used to be just as bad giving their phones security updates but now they’re the BEST! Even better than Google!!!

  49. Dave Romanyshyn

    March 26, 2022 at 9:24 pm

So really the only reason to buy one is just to have something different. There’s no other reason to get this over Pixel or Samsung. I miss the days where you could customize the materials that Motorola phones were built with (leather, wood, etc).

  51. Ellie Kim

You’re not going to notice 144hz and it’s a waste of battery life. No content will even match 144 except for movies since those are shot in 24fps

  52. Ellie Kim

    March 27, 2022 at 10:46 am

With 2 years of OS updates and who knows when ! Seriously Motorola needs to do at least 3 with Google doing 3 and Samsung doing 4 if they want to have any chance of gaining market share

  53. Rxonmymind

    March 27, 2022 at 5:50 pm

They burned me on my first Edge+ with FIVE phones having to be returned. Finally got this one without issues.
    Never again.
Shout out to Verizon for sticking through it all even though they don’t make the phones. They kept replacing them. One every two weeks. Geeze they got tired of seeing me.
If Motorola wants to send me a free one to review only then. But not spending $1,000 on a phone again and go through that crap.
