25 years for roof tiles? I had a house in the UK with a 75 year old roof and found to be in perfect condition..

I was researching whether it makes sense to somewhat heat the basement to increase the floor temperature slightly (it does, in my rental) and thats when I learned that doing so actually also reduces the risk of basement mold because it lowers the humidity. I hope it’s true lol
@justayoutuber1906
April 14, 2026 at 8:53 pm
Your RELATIVE humidity will do down because warm air can hold more water. Same amount of water is there. Get a dehumidifier if it isn’t too cold.

Ooh, I’ve seen one that was more ridiculous than the license plate. My old landlord covered a hole in the ceiling with part of the packaging for a Sweet and Sour Chicken TV dinner for some reason. Not only was the wood in older homes closer to actual size, but they were built with old growth mostly hardwood lumber, not the fast grow pine, that’s also at smaller dimensions.

No, you do not build houses, or structures of any kind, out of hardwood. Please go look up softwood vs hardwood. Thank you.

April 17, 2026 at 4:42 pm
We stopped taxing the rich. Look at the 1950s when we had a 90% tax bracket to cap yearly earnings at the modern equivalent of 5 million dollars a year. When those taxes were in place, wages went up, staffing went up, and outsourcing went down. It turns out CEOs raid the companies they run for personal wealth unless tax policy prevents it. CEOs only care about self enrichment and not the company. The labor gets paid as little as possible and corners are cut on materials. It adds up to the CEO getting richer. The houses are sold at full market value even though they are defective and worth much less.

I have a 120 year old house. Paid it off completely in 13 years. Also have spent about 50 grand on things like modernizing the wiring, fixing plumbing issues, etc. But it’s certainly built solidly. I still need to replace the windows and insulate the walls, but any house built before air conditioning is made to be air cooled and that means lots of windows. My 1,400 square foot house has 36 windows. That’s an expensive job. 😆

My parents old house is great. My sisters new house is awesome, the shower is the best ever, oh my god that is worth the price. But my aunt and uncle they got a horrible one. I watched their place when they were away for a trip. The backyard is huge but horrible, the garage is too short. They have to park in the driveway. The kitchen is tiny with no storage space, the faucets and appliances are cheap as f, the bathrooms are insanely small cubicles in weird places, all the doors a child could kick in, The toilets are midget size, no water pressure, weird smell in the house, mailbox is crap, no street lights, I wouldn’t live there if it was free. They did no research or inspection.
