Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared today before Congress (House Judiciary Committee) to discuss potential antitrust legislation, their control over items like the iPhone app store, and Apple’s general industry superiority. Committee members grilled Tim Cook on whether Apple is indeed treating competitors and small businesses fairly as they begin to achieve market dominance. This is CNET’s supercut of the live event, specifically everything referring to what Apple had to say, but you can also watch the Facebook, Amazon, and Google supercuts here at CNET.

Totally agree with em , apple is monopolizing and using their power to their interests so apple should just give the opportunity to anyone to install whatever app he want from whatever store or just with an ipa file like android with apk

You are allowed to do that. They just make sure its the most painstaking thing in the world, but it is possible .

Developers who continue to complain about Apple’s 30% cut should build their own Phone and App Store.

.. so people don’t understand they are strict to keep the garbage off their store, unlike Google Play Store, flooded with BS.

What’s funny is, he says “our” investigation, knowing he didn’t do anything but get reports from others. 😂🤣🤷🏾‍♂️

If you don’t like Apple, buy another phone. If you don’t like Google, use another search engine. If you don’t like Amazon, shop elsewhere. And if you don’t like Facebook, get off it. Sick of people pretending they have a gun to their head to use these companies’ products when it’s entirely their own choice.

So McBath is saying Apple is the devil but they essentially have given tens of thousands of developers jobs and paid out billion to app developers. Most of these guys wouldn’t have a job without Apple or Google.

These guys are not technically qualified enough to put forward questions as dumb and then technically not sound enough to accept the answers. Every company learns from it’s loopholes. that developers exploit. Apple’s own app, screentime is free with IOS while Apple promoting other Screentime apps is a boost to its own revenue and despite that, they banned due to security concerns and took control of their OS. What’s wrong with that? Illiterates…!

Apple owns the store. Why is anyone telling them how to run it? The only reason they’re attacking them is because apple has $$$ and control over that $$$

Congress has no business regulation business and technology, and should leave the free market alone. Apple is by far not the only player in this space.

  33. proudindian30

If someone cuts me off, I deliberately make it awkward by staying silent for a few minutes until they ask “can you hear me?” (Over the phone) atleast three times. I would then reply “Oh! I was just waiting for you to finish so I can speak.” Did this with so called executives at my previous workplace and some job interviews. Glad that I don’t work for those dumbasses anymore.

*_I have now watched all of the Tech CEOs give their answers, so let me save you some time:_*
Congress: “Why does your company think it is okay to punch puppies in the face, then make tea out of their tears, then throw babies off of bridges into shark-infested waters?”
Tech CEO: “Um….senator….with all due respect…I disagree with the premise in that question. Our company philosophy does not include..”
Congress: “Sorry to interrupt, even though I’m not, I have lots of questions that I want you to not be able to answer. I am trying to get re-elected here, and I need to look tough. Everyone knows this world is black and white, and answers in life are always simple. Now, back to my horribly framed questions. We need to wrap this up because congress needs another four week break.”

  39. Thom Strom

    July 30, 2020 at 11:03 pm

Tim is well prepared, truly lives with the company, takes and responds to questions kindly and wisely. The questioners totally doesn’t understand the landscape in which they ask questions, they are clearly very biased and base their stance on anecdotal emails and communication.

  40. Panda Panda

    July 30, 2020 at 11:03 pm

Dodging and the questions, never answered when questioned on Apple developing apps due to data collected from apps created by other developers. Sidestepped issue concerning guidelines and pricing from outside developers. Listening to him and others remind me of mafia types.

The beginning part was cringey when he was talking about Apple as a company, but the interruptions were more cringey.

The US Congress is useless. This is a statement about Congress, not the 4 tech giants, which all have their own issues.

  43. W0LFM4N

    July 30, 2020 at 11:31 pm

He asked “what will stop Apple from increasing their commission”

Hey Congressman what will stop you from increasing taxes on citizens?

I hate our government “leaders” they aren’t real leaders.

Okay so a 70% cut of something is better than a 0% cut of nothing. If developers aren’t happy with how Apple do things why don’t they make their own platform to make their own apps?

These Congress people are absolute clowns! Why ARE TOU WORRYING ABOUT THE BIG GIANTS THAT HAVR BROUGHT ECONOMIC GROWTH! Tell them to bring their stuff here! No wonder companies are fleeing away from your country to not pay taxes! Worry about the companies that are NOT established within your country

I don’t want no name companies making apps that steal my data on the app store Willy nilly. I want Apple, someone that knows what they are doing, behind the wheel congresswoman!
Consumers are not getting hurt here.
