great, moreways to take money. I’m thankful I’m not a Disney fanatic like my sis and her fam is. Way too expensive for the same thing every year/every few months. I’m good with going every few years whern something new is built.

I would have liked to have seen more of the AR interactions on your phone like if you have Mickey mouse in the viewfinder and Mickey comes alive on your phone and says “you’re on the right track, it’s thata way” and points you in the right direction.

I know those Disney bands are cool but Apple and Disney should work together bringing out watch bands for the Apple Watch that has all these Disney characters Star Wars Pixar that you can get with Apple Watch bands and then there also should be an app that you can download but you would have to pay for it like you do The Disney bands and it would do everything that Disney bands would do but would be an app and would give you more function more stuff that would be more Apple Disney feel I just think would be a better experience

Modern Disney never ceases to find innovative and magical ways to be gross. Seriously, for those of you for whom money is no object, do you even feel the old Disney magic when you go to the parks anymore? Or are you just going through the motions? Everything Disney is just becoming so tainted in my eyes.

  18. Anthony Pinto

    May 5, 2022 at 2:28 am

It’s beyond me why all of this cannot be done from an app. There is no reason to have just another bit of ewaste.

    • thehotsixer1

      May 7, 2022 at 1:43 am

I would say money is a pretty strong reason.

Bridget is a cute nerd. Good expansion of the band use and cell phone for Pokémon’s-ish AR experience. More use than using it to pay for snacks, open hotel room door and collecting pins.

Who has time to play interactive park games when you are juggling Genie+, pay per ride LL, dining reservations, transportation, kids, etc. when you are on a 7 day vacation? It seems more usable by annual passholders that go to the parks often. They can spend the whole day playing games and no rides. It’s a cool idea, but it needs to do more than what was shown so far.

    • UmmYeahOk

      May 5, 2022 at 6:07 am

That essentially was what Sorcerers of the Kingdom was. It was cool, as a once a year visitor, to see people play this. It was an extra but of magic even though we didn’t even play it. When they removed it, I figured they were going to replace it with something better, only, it was nothing. I mean, if they intended this to replace it, the 50th started last October. They’re already 8 months into this celebration. They needed this nonsense as well as the World Showcase KP/Agent P/Ducktales in EPCOT to get people out of the rides and shops, and doing something else. I mean, it’s not like they are going to open up a fifth park to address crowd control.

Do you get to keep your magic band plus with you or do you have to return it to Disney?

    • UmmYeahOk

      May 5, 2022 at 6:08 am

You’re paying for it just like the current magicband. It’s yours.

  28. UmmYeahOk

    May 5, 2022 at 6:14 am

21 years ago they used to sell these interactive “magical moments” pins. They had several LEDs in them. And while you could set it off manually, it would also flash different sequences depending on what ride you were on, and what show you were watching. I still have my pin, and it still interacts with a few rides, but not as many as when it was originally released. I was sorta hoping that the new magicband+ would do something similar.

  29. Mike Coshan

    May 5, 2022 at 9:54 am

It does seem a bit unnecessary as you could do more with your smartphone & an app using the augmented reality in the camera app… you could actually see the sprinkles lol. Also with the watches unlocking your cabin on the star cruiser you’d better not get your watch stolen

  30. Toph Law

    May 5, 2022 at 10:22 am

very cool coverage. as always, love Bridget’s enthusiasm as far as the potential these bands can provide to the whole theme park experience.
I can imagine Disney expanding it to a Pokemon Go!-eque AR game outside the park to add value to the bands outside of a seasonal wearable.

Please help me to understand. What am I supposed to do with that magic band at home? I’m mean if I can buy it, than I can take it home right? So…? I thought you can rent those in the park

I was recently reading in Empire how on the new Jurassic Park film, the animatronic dinosaurs were the biggest diva’s on set: Like the actors, they too had their breakdowns and fixer-upper entourages to get them back on cue. But what I really liked was, how the actors (reportedly), all fell in love with these animatronic beasts. I want that experience – an animatronic dinosaur that responds, to me personally via AI. People go on about cars etc but we can already drive just fine (well, most of us…), but what better use is their for AI and engineering in this world, than actually creating Jurassic Park for real? It really is the be all and end all of theme parks.

  36. thehotsixer1

This is real stupid, Disney could have put a time display to make this “magic band” useful for at least one thing outside the parks instead of being completely worthless.

  37. Michael Noble

    May 7, 2022 at 8:12 pm

    1. The tech inside the magic bands will need to be installed into the astromechs for guests.

    2. I would have the magic band as a smart watch that will have good features and have the magic band for the Disney cruisers.

    3. I would use the magicband for rental vehicles around Disney even ones that doesn’t need a license in the future. Also work with for things like pod racers, speeders, and star fighters to boot.

    4. I would also put in a communication system into the magic bands to communicate with the family. Savvy?
