As an ex-Tesla owner that just switched to Rivian, this dude is a breath of fresh air. Love my R1T and cannot wait to see them sell a ton of these cars.
@frankcoffey
April 22, 2026 at 2:53 pm
He did kind of dodge the questions but that’s understandable considering where they are. You don’t want to hurt sales of the gen1 R2 because people will want the new chips. I’m on the waiting list for R2 but I do want to see some reviews first. The main concern I have is the LMR battery. I wish they had gone with just LFP or NMC. LMR is cheaper like LFP but you lose the 100% charging and maybe the longevity before it degrades. We shall see.
@Mike-dr8wx

Agree.. I’ve been holding out for the R2 and it’s great to see a CEO that cares about consumers and the product.. unlike most of Silicon Valley.
@wavey61
April 22, 2026 at 3:29 pm
Current Model Y owner. While the vehicle is great, and revolutionary for its time, it’s been the same thing for 10 years now. I’m ready for a new company to bring some new blood into this industry, and the R2 looks amazing! Got it reserved, can’t wait!
@frankcoffey
April 22, 2026 at 3:51 pm
@wavey61 Same here, on our third Tesla but on the waiting list for the R2.
@dllemm
April 22, 2026 at 3:55 pm
I’m not looking to purchase a CEO anytime soon, but I’m glad they have a more reasonably sized vehicle coming out. The R1 is just way too big.

April 22, 2026 at 1:48 pm
He clearly has the confidence of someone who sees the future leaders of this market. Ultimately, it’s all about self-driving tech. That’s likely why Volkswagen and Uber made their moves. Plus, leveraging Uber’s fleet means inventory issues are a thing of the past!! Good job RJ and RIVIAN. made in america very impressive!!
@dllemm
April 22, 2026 at 3:54 pm
Are the parts made in America?
@mikeshiLRal
April 22, 2026 at 3:58 pm
@dllemm The core components are obviously made in the USA. In EVs, the most critical parts are the battery assembly, the drive units (motor boxes), and the control systems—and all of those are manufactured right here in the States

If they make it to then, I’ll consider replacing my Model Y. Although they definitely rubbed me the wrong way waiting until right before launch to say “the 45k isn’t what we’re releasing this year, we’re starting out with the high end again” R1S is cool but can’t justify the ridiculous price for a car manufacturer I can’t say will or won’t be around in 10 years.
@macioluko9484
April 22, 2026 at 3:57 pm
Rivian is still just a very expensive hobby unfortunately. Profits are nowhere to be seen.

at the 1:40 mark, Scaringe was asked about R2 demand and the number of orders coming in. Scaringe never answered the question. Scaringe replied by how excited he was to drive the R2. This type of evasiveness scares me. Given that the order page isn’t even stood up, I don’t think anyone knows what demand will be. Instead of saying this, Scaringe cleverly evaded the question. Makes me a little nervous
@dllemm
April 22, 2026 at 3:58 pm
The issue is how strong the demand will be at $60k, which is their launch price.
@ojimenez354
April 22, 2026 at 5:36 pm
It’s because we don’t want false hype like the Cybertruck.
@rstrakovsky
April 22, 2026 at 7:05 pm
There’s literally a year+ wait list for R2. Now you can play semantics games and say they’re reservations, not orders, but you can’t order an R2 until June. Regardless, demand seems very high.
@BradC44
April 22, 2026 at 2:31 pm
The R2 won’t save Rivian.

April 22, 2026 at 2:44 pm

@StormyDog
April 22, 2026 at 3:09 pm
They’ll most likely become a niche player. Hope they succeed but I wouldn’t bet on it.
@BradC44
April 22, 2026 at 3:20 pm
@StormyDogI think they might keep the Amazon van going for Jeff, but their passenger cars won’t survive.
@csguak
April 22, 2026 at 3:35 pm
@BradC44 you already knew their production strategy isn’t profitable… Let’s see how much longer Amazon will back them. It will be awhile but it they won’t be anything like Tesla
@macioluko9484
April 22, 2026 at 4:02 pm
Unfortunately true. It has taken them too long to get to this point. Time is money. Rivian is running out of both.

How amazing to have a relatable human being driving the company (pun intended). No crazy politics, just strategy and the desire for a better company, product, and world. Thank you RJ. Cant wait to get my Rivian soon.

April 22, 2026 at 4:28 pm
Never wanted an Ev until the R2.
@prebaned
April 22, 2026 at 4:41 pm
$60k for a R2 with no date for retail sale from a startup company hemorrhaging cash that never turned a profit is a tought nut to swallow.
@Otto-W
April 22, 2026 at 5:07 pm
They have dumped massive amounts of money building the infrastructure. It’s why VW has a multi billion software deal with them. When they get rolling, hopefully soon, they will compete.
@erichmeyer8213
April 22, 2026 at 5:01 pm
And it will cost $60k will it finally arrives.
@ojimenez354
April 22, 2026 at 5:37 pm
On par with Tesla. I know good pricing.
@erichmeyer8213
April 22, 2026 at 5:02 pm
If they didn’t have a lifeline from VW and Amazon van production they would be out of business. You can’t survive building / selling 30,000 vehicles a year as an EV company.

Software defined, autonomous vehicles are the only way forward. The human must be removed from the loop in the navigation of vehicles. I do not want my children on the road where they are endangered by random humans driving distracted.

RJ can we please get a max battery in R2 not too expensive 🙏 for us apartment dwellers we like EV’s too 😅
@iskyfly7
April 22, 2026 at 8:11 pm
RJ lied with snake business words saying R2 will start at 45 with 300+ miles thus making people think that the first car will be 45k with 300+. People try to justify the wording (which is a factual lie). There’ no 45K R2 at 300+. After finally telling the truth with 45k at 275. Yikes I wonder what other things RJ is lying about. I’m disappointed. I thought RJ would be truthful straight true. He could have said during intro we will have a 45k with 275 later in 2027 and we will start with a performance R2 at 59k with 330+. That would have been 1000 times better. Telling the truth, not slippery serpent trick words.
