I struggle with crowds as most do. I found that personal confidence happens when you know the subject like the back of your hand prior to stepping out.
When someone that repeats themselves and/or uses a number of filler words (um, uh, etc) I question myself on whether or not that individual knows what they are talking about.

I’ve always found overly confident people to be repulsive, and tried to never be like that. So, to many people, I’ve come across as humble and lacking confidence, but I’m really not. I think that I recognize the difference in true confidence and someone who is faking or posing, but it seems like a fine line sometimes. I liked this video, and the tips and observations he makes are right on mark, but I’d like to hear what he has to say about over confidence.

I feel most confident In public when I feel I look my best. Sometimes we cannot control the way we look so do YOUR best and feel comfortable in YOUR skin. Also when you have a good team of people around you (i.e friends) it’s a lot easier to feel mor comfortable, more CONFIDENT.

1:42 Probably not a good idea to bring in Colin Powell as an example. Here’s a man who achieved a lot of firsts and yet will be remembered for a fake vial (filled with I don’t know, talcum powder?) he brought to the UN and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings. What’s worse, Powell regretted it himself. So, you don’t just have to show you’re confident, you also have to have the moral courage to stand up to back it up unless you want to be remembered for a vial of talcum powder.

Ever since I was young, I always looked at people in the eyes when I speak to them or say “ hey how you doing, hey what’s up” but always looking at them, I remember Mike Tyson said he knew he was gonna win the fight by looking at his opponents as soon as he entered the stadium, and when the opponent would look away or glance away, Mike knew they were weak or scared, I always remembered that, I’m 30 years old now and people always talk about how even though I’m a short 5’6 Mexican, I get peoples attention and they can feel my confidence when I walk in , little things make a difference, but I’m not arrogant or cocky either, you have to be able to read a room, I was a correctional officer in Texas, people say more with their body language more then anything

Confidence is really relaxation, and being relaxed in a given situation. Keep in mind how some people who appear confident, can be hucksters and liars and also think they’re better than everyone else. Don’t automatically believe, confident people always tell the truth. Want to appear confidant its simple. Slow down, make subtle languid movements. It goes back to animal instinct, the predator doesn’t have to move fast, they get to be carefree. Prey tho are spastic, always on edge, do everything fast and quickly. Just slow down, take a few breaths. I find the great thing about body language and how it makes life easier is that if you project or use your body language in a way that LOOKS confident, you also FEEL confident. Body language is therefore one of the most effective ways to overcome social anxiety, especially on the spot.

One important detail is what you ingest to get in the right state of mind. For me, a cup of coffee has a huge impact on my confidence. I only drink one cup a day, in the morning, unless I have a meeting or something else with other people that is important, then I’ll have another cup before that meeting starts. For you it might be something else, but “drugs” are a hugely under discussed area in terms of how they impact confidence and human interactions.

You may not like him, but you can’t deny that he is truly one of the most confident and charismatic man in the world. He is collected, calm and strong. He radiates power and confidence. I’m confident but I am extremely physically fidgety and nervous appearing due to my other unrelated issues physically and mentally. So I bet people believe I have no confidence. I give off a very different impression than what I feel inside many times. And thinking about not showing the wrong thing, takes too much energy then I will mess up what I say or do, when I could have just appeared nervous but did my task correctly

The thing is.. why it’s hard for some people is because you are telling them how to copy people who are confident. Whereas, ask the confident people, they aren’t copying nobody. Being confident is not about doing this or that. It’s about the process a person has to go through in order to become totally comfortable with himself and the surroundings.

I don’t really mind up speak. I feel like it’s a great way to be inclusive and make sure everyone is on the same page before continuing. I confidently use my up talk 😂 I think men are taught that they are not supposed to be inclusive but decisive instead so they are not allowed to learn uptalk

I’m curious why you find it surprising that a person in a wheelchair would be confident? Why wouldn’t we be? If one can show confidence while seated, why would it matter if the seat has wheels?

Fake confidence is highly over-rated. If we, as human beings, learned to appreciate the quality of questioning ourselves, it would improve us as human beings. People with lack of confidence still have a lot to offer, and they’re often silenced and ignored. That’s not a bad way to look at it, either.

I think that it all boils down to this one thing he said at the end: Know your material. REALLY know it. When you’re very good at something-anything- and you know it, you’re confident in showing someone, talking about it or presenting it to a room of people. Know your stuff.

Thank you! I noticed I am an uptalker as well and I just decided to get rid of this habit right very now. In my case, it happens only when I speak English. Since English is not my mother tongue, I subconsciously ask for confirmation when I talk to native English speakers to make sure if I could make myself understood or not. However, this is not going to happen anymore this way. Thanks again Joe!
