Yahoo is buying Artifact, the news startup launched by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The company’s personalization technology will be integrated across Yahoo, including the Yahoo News app, in the coming months. At this point, the app will no longer exist in its original form.

The acquisition comes months after the company said it would be winding down operations. During the transition, Systrom and Krieger say they will work with Yahoo in an “advisory capacity,” though it’s unclear what their roles will be in the future.

Disclosure: Yahoo is TechCrunch’s parent company.
