People would be less inclined to have children if they were IN survival mode, since they’re too busy, you know, worrying about survival… not sure why you’d support UBI either, since that is in line with the socialists, and about a half step above communism. Yeah so steel industry is really polluting, so let’s all buy a new car evert 2-3 years and support the industry right… using more steel. And that’s one of the things that annoys me. There’s a huge problem with this plan and I submit that it’s exemplified by the fact there exists a “tech” industry which excludes the industrial economy. It’s cheap to disrupt the software and entertainment industries. Places like Silicon Valley just hoover up all the best engineers. No one graduates with an engineering degree dreaming about the chance to work in cement production. Innovation is like a tree that’s not true-from-seed. It takes almost 100,000 apple trees to get one that produces fruit that tastes good. If the smartest engineers don’t start pouring into these legacy, old-timey, stodgy, bureaucratic industries then climate change innovation will just be crab apples no matter how much money gets thrown at it.

@Arif watch Eric Schmidt’s speech at Davos from this year. He explains how they need Govt to give them as much money as possible to fund the roll out of their AI program. He says that it will make people smarter because the same algorithm that tracks your activity and presents advertisiments to you will use the same data to make decisions for you in your life. They intend for people to following the instructions of their personal algorithms to help them out when their jobs are replaced by automation etc. He also says “don’t worry, no one who is part of Davos will be affected”. We don’t need to reduce it by that much, but we do need to stabilise it, and we already know how. Literally every single study into the subject has shown time and time again, the best way to control population growth, is to empower women and give them access to education, birth control, abortion, freedom from religion, and independence. Works literally everywhere it has happened.

@Lumalee economic growth from a rural to more urban economy greatly reduces population growth combined with contraception and freedom of choice population will reduce easily by 5 billion in many years its just there are many countries without great economies and without normalized contraception which is where overpopulation can be a worry
