The firecuda 530 is the most durable drive out of any ssd on the market for ps5/pc right now.

Transfer speeds are great and all, but it’s important to also test read & write speeds of it compared to the internal drive. Also, the TBW rating is important since SSDs don’t have an infinite lifespan.

    • OneToGoBeyond

      February 5, 2022 at 3:52 pm

No drive is infinite, but amount of write cycles on SSD’s are not something commerical use is going to need to worry about really (with proper use).

    • xxnike629xx

      February 5, 2022 at 6:30 pm

@OneToGoBeyond and why is that? TBW is important.

    • OneToGoBeyond

      February 7, 2022 at 11:11 pm

@xxnike629xx Well, if you go and check what the manufacturers are claiming for how many write cycles their drive has, most are in the 30-70k write cycles before the integrity of the drive will be compromised. Odds are with normal use, the average user will never approach that level of use. You might get to 5-10k in total on one drive.

Don’t need the ~2min exposition on why you would add a m.2 drive as most the people that click this video already know this. Long story short – all drives perform nearly the same and to the average consumer, you’ll never notice a difference – which hundreds of other YouTubers already found months ago this when the updated firmware come out. This is exactly the reason YouTube needs to bring back (officially) the dislike button counter.

Only two FireCuda available at a Best Buy near me. But a good sale going on this wknd. Haven’t checked Amazon yet

I picked up the WD_BLACK 2TB SN850 without heatsink because at the time, they were charging near 100 bucks more for it. In internal tests the actual write speeds were under the 7000mb/s but only just so and not consistent (somewere right at the 7k). What I’ve found is that m.2 is fine for overflow of PS5 games I’m not currently playing but to transfer off to for quick retrival.

I also own a 4tb ssd with 2k write speeds for ps4 games AND PS5 titles I have no clue when I’m ever going to play again. The price point on that external SSD was a touch expensive, but it’s also an investment for future gen and/or other things I might need it for down the line.

  17. Jorge Mankita

    February 5, 2022 at 4:15 pm

This test is not useful, since it’s limited by the ps5 internal drive, you should test loading speeds from those drives too to know if any are better

The teardown to install a crap 1tb ssd is basically the same crap it already has inside this having to buy another 1tb ssd is so redundant and the risk of someone whose never opened anything electronic to snap or break something off instead of making the drive plug in and out via small access panel like most laptops

Transfer times is great and all but where’s the real world experience that a user will typically see, such as with game start up or load time. Also, comparing this to the internal storage (baseline) is useful.
