A couple of points of hers that I strongly disagree with:
1. “Ai closed the gaps between my ideas and what I could create”
Not even close. This has never been a practical rhetoric, but pro ai art ppl never stop saying it. There are millions of human artists who have had to overcome physical limitations or lack of born skill, and their art defines the space in their effort and expression.
2. “And I know there’s a lot of people that talk about how ai art is trained on the work of other artists. But for me, when I’m making it, there’s no other artist at the table”
This is sickening. She completely avoided this topic. It doesn’t matter if her ideas and creative direction are her own. Discrediting the fact that models began their training and data by scraping millions of human made works, almost exclusively unconsensually, is a dangerous notion that will kill people’s desire to share. It’s not the same as a person getting inspired, far from it. It’s a company looking to profit.
3. “Ai helped me respark my creativity”
If you need an AI to help you be “creative” and inspired, then hope is lost for the artist. Art comes from reflection, experience, and most of all, effort.
4. At large, this is the most nothing ted talk I’ve ever seen. I’m not walking away with a new perspective, I’m just hearing that this gal tried AI and liked it and let it overcome the challenges that make art good **for** her. I bet she could’ve been a great artist, I think her style is interesting (although, the AI generated works are wayyyy too close to looking like Salvadore Dali / Alice and wonderland movie aesthetics for me to say it’s unique)

That was really sad to watch…
Believing that whatever AI produced for you is the result of your creativity, when in reality it’s just spitting out images it can spit out because it’s learned to do so thanks to other artists’ works.
I wouldn’t call that her work. I would just say it looks as close to what she had in mind. AI art is at best pseudo-art, and just because it looks esthetically pleasing doesn’t mean the means used to create this should be revered.

The comment section here shows: You don’t need to be afraid of AI, you need to be afraid of the sociopathy within the common human being. AI has this sociopathy in the common man laid bare and for everyone to see: Mankind is the true evil, not AI.

No. AI is not, never will be, art. No matter who uses it or how. The moment people find out that the result is AI created, it will be rejected and hated. As it should be. Only people can create art.

We all get to decide what art is. For me this is an incredible use of pushing boundaries of new tools for creation from someone who is actually an artist. Throughout history people have “cringed” as tech evolved into new tools to create art. The camera, paint in tubes, the drum machine, sampling, Bob Dylan going electric…new tools, new sounds, new kinds of art. Either it resonates with you or it doesn’t. Best part is if we like like it we can consume it and if we don’t we can just as easily turn it off. Art is whatever moves you.

If you can write it in prompt you can describe what you want to a real artist and if you can´t you should not do it at all.

This is delusional slop. It’s like the AI that convinced a plumber he’s a genius mathematician … AI convinced you that its slop is your — YOUR — creativity. Waaaaaait … did AI convince TED to invite this talk too? 🙄😡

One of the most exciting things about art is that it has never stood still. Every generation of artists has experimented with the newest tools available to them, and almost every major technological shift has initially been met with skepticism. Photography, synthesizers, drum machines, sampling, digital editing, and now AI all challenged our ideas about what creativity is and who gets to define it.
What I appreciate about Kelly’s talk is the willingness to explore those boundaries rather than be afraid of them. New tools don’t replace imagination, taste, curiosity, or artistic vision. They simply give artists another medium through which to express them.
You don’t have to connect with every piece of art or every new technology, and that’s perfectly fine. But experimentation is how art evolves. Keep creating, keep exploring, and keep pushing boundaries, Kelly! @kellyeld2323

In my professional opinion as a musician and composer who performed her music in Carnegie Hall – this “music” is not art! It is unoriginal in every musical aspect (voice, instrumentation, melody, chord progressions…), it is based on countless other not so original pop songs, and it is absolutely soulless. AI can give some people the illusion that they too can be artists, but they still lack foundation, knowledge, expertise, introspection and years of practice. I understand why it is so compelling for Mrs Boesch…and the need to say “my”, “mine” so often…that is also a clue.

I just don’t understand how she doesn’t see this as a problem.
She avoids meeting potential actors, camera operators, musicians, dancers,, designers, PEOPLE, simply because this is easier. It’s not only lazy, but sad how this seemingly has her stuck in an echo chamber. Sad Ted talk has empowered this.

I don’t think most of the people who have commented here have any idea of how much work goes into her work. It is creative. Anything new is met with resistance. The first impressionists were castigated.

The comments here attacking Boesch align with how the Nazis spoke about art they didn’t like and called “slop”. The Anti-AI movement is a fascistic movement and needs to be treated as such.
