    The platforms should be aware of those occurrences online, and do something to retreat it instead of keep it running.

    I’m 44 years old and I play games with my son. We play shooters too but it doesn’t make us murders.

    This talk hits harder than expected. We’re no longer in a world where games are “just entertainment.” They’re culture, economy, identity—and increasingly, ideological pipelines.

    The idea of “Game Cults” captures something we’ve all felt but didn’t have the language for. From fan communities turning hyper-political to extremist groups using digital avatars and Discord chats for recruitment, this isn’t speculation—it’s already happening.

    💡 A perspective worth expanding:
    It’s not just about the danger of radicalization—it’s also about the vacuum of belonging.

    Games offer what institutions often fail to provide: meaning, structure, mission, and tribe. When the real world feels uncertain, unfair, or unaffordable, people naturally gravitate toward virtual spaces that reward effort and loyalty.

    That’s not inherently bad. But if we don’t shape those spaces intentionally, others will do it—for worse.

    The solution isn’t banning games. It’s understanding them, participating in them, and designing them with moral architecture in mind.

    this seems a bit extreme. People don’t have the attention span to focus on any particular game for too long nowadays.

      June 26, 2025 at 8:15 pm

      I mean I would agree that attention spans are down by a lot, but aren’t video games like, really long? As in like 10hs of hours to experience what most games have to offer? Seems like quite the commitment when compared to a season of television. Maybe I’m missing someting?

    • @Amandacollins-l3w

      June 26, 2025 at 9:08 pm

      @chrisxenzo1373 they’re longer than 10hrs😂😂😅😅

    This sounds like he’s trying to build a cult. Like those Christians saying Rock and Roll is the devils work. Give me a break.

    I play COD MW with my kids, division 2, overwatch and other games. Only weak minded falls for cults

The TED Idea Search arrives in Buenos Aires, a city with a fierce intellectual tradition, as 10 speakers deliver talks in a stunning warehouse that’s home to the city’s iconic opera sets, competing for a chance to speak on the TED main stage. Watch as a Gen Z voice reframes “brain rot” as a secret diplomatic tool and a surgeon explores the future of robotic medicine, reminding us why the human touch still matters — and much more. Choosing just one to represent Buenos Aires to the world turns out to be one of the hardest decisions yet.

The most interesting ideas often come from the most unexpected places. We searched the globe for ideas with the power to inspire, motivate and change lives — and we found them at @TEDx events around the world. The TED Idea Search follows extraordinary speakers from 9 countries competing for a spot on the TED main stage in Vancouver this April.
