Looks like they are 20 years behind, they will catch up in the next decade.

They plan to build the first lunar base in 10 years.

C’mon maybe not twenty years behind, the rockets using a liquid fuel engine and that is pretty new

    • sparkle sparkles

      July 24, 2020 at 11:06 pm

@Samuel it wasn’t a dig, everyone should be very impressed, they said they were 40 years behind 10 years ago.

LoL 🤣 claim landed on the moon but don’t know how to go back. Rely on Russian to send astronaut to space for 15 years. Just don’t pretend USA is any better than other countries. Even UAE can send probe into Mars.

      July 25, 2020 at 12:54 am

@Eric Chen Qian Xuesen was part of the team that sent those astronauts, he founded JPL afterwards.

    • Eric Chen

      July 26, 2020 at 1:25 pm

@sparkle sparkles Qian xueshen is one of the founder for USA JPL. When foreign brain and Germany POW scientists died out, USA is nothing.

@Eric Chen So you can’t discredit NASA’s achievement without discrediting Dr Qian.

    • Dr Yu

      July 26, 2020 at 2:16 pm

They would already catch up with this one mission, because the difference is that in prior U.S. and Soviet missions to Mars, orbiting, attempted landing, and roving were each carried out in separate missions spanning decades. However, this Chinese mission is the only one to ever aim to achieve all three objectives in a single mission. So, this is more impressive than those.

    • Eric Chen

      July 27, 2020 at 11:13 pm

@sparkle sparkles without Chinese and Germany scientists, Americans wouldn’t have space program. Without foreign brains, NASA is a merely joke.

      July 28, 2020 at 1:00 am

@Eric ChenYou make it sound like Dr Qian went to MIT to show off. At least Americans were wise enough not to experiment with a Communist or Nazi government.

      July 24, 2020 at 10:45 pm

China landed the first rocket on the far side of the moon and plans to build the FIRST permanent lunar base. They plan on using the lunar base for research but hopes it one day serves as a pit stop to Mars. I’m American but China is already kicking our ass. Underestimating them would just be ignorant.

    • Dr Yu

      July 26, 2020 at 2:21 pm

Not really. The difference is that the U.S. only carried out each objectives of orbiting, landing, and roving in separate missions that spanned decades. This Chinese mission is the only one, ever, to aim to achieve all three objectives in a single mission. So, it’s far more difficult and impressive than those of the U.S.

What if there’s a Chinese astronaut onboard the Long March 5 Mars rocket that was recently launched? Could China claim Mars as its territory if one of its astronauts is the first man to step foot on Mars, and plant the Chinese flag?
