Amazing, nearly 1/3 the range of a diesel semi truck. Give me the bottom bun and patty of big Mac at twice the speed and you have an impressive product.

Elon must have been inspired by the McLaren f1 he owned for the single centered seat. What a true genius

I can say right now.. its not for me and useless for the work i need to do with it..
I work in europe.. and mostly drive in cities and villages to restock supermarkets..
1st The hydraulic lift on the trailer is hooked up to the truck witch will kill the range
2nd we have no space for supercharge station as we already have problems with normall EV chargers
3rd we occasionally run more weight then the US regulations allow..
4rd a long wheelbase truck sucks on moving around tight areas…
And last.. if we have student drivers we need to ride passenger to learn them how to do the job and how to drive.. when the truck is a single middle seater.. where does the mentordriver go??

    • logitech4873

      December 4, 2022 at 9:07 pm

1 – A hydraulic lift can’t hope to empty the monstrous battery in this truck.
2 – The chargers can be very far apart from one another. They don’t need to be in urban locations.
3 – This truck can probably move quite a bit more, but at reduced range of course.
4 – This can be difficult yeah.
5 – There’s a fold-out seat behind and to the right of the drivers’ seat.

    • gewoontimm

      December 4, 2022 at 10:21 pm

@logitech4873 1- our lifts are hooked up directly to the 24volt battery of the truck and are used serveral times a day and they need quite a lot of power ( the lights dim when i use it)
2- urban locations is 80% the truck will be used at for my work.. loading and unloading takes 45 minutes for full loaded.. small load drop offs only take 5 to 10 minutes
3- so i have no problem with reduced range in a diesel with heavy loads…
4- that drives home my point that its not for me and the work i do
5- i need to be next of the drive incase i need to hit the brakes or correct on steering.. i cant do that from the seat in the back.. also in the back my view is blocked by the driver in front and the screens so i will always be too late to intercept and prevent the learner from making a mistake and hitting something..

  15. TruthAloneTriumphs

We need trailers that have a battery pack built in and solar panels on the roof. It will increase the range of the truck, and when parked the trailer can charge up.

  22. George W

    December 4, 2022 at 10:37 pm

As for Lon haul not sure at 500 miles, also I see an issue with needing more than 30 minutes for a full charge and companies wanting the driver back on the road after their 30 minute break. Additionally will Tesla look at acquiring land around the large distribution centers to install chargers? I can see a company with a distribution center in riverside California having their own charging units and sending trucks to their stores in a 200 mile range. Also need to account for the trucks just sitting in traffic for an hour or more, that takes away from the mileage.

Had it happen with my M3, I got home with 30 miles, range left and expected closer to 50, plus it was 40 degree day, so yes I had the heater on.

500 means 350 in the real world. In winter maybe 250. Diesels are now about 1500 or more.

  28. Ghirma Greene

    December 5, 2022 at 3:45 pm

I’m seriously skeptical about this. Can it actually drive 500 miles on a single charge? Probably… However, can it do it towing a 50k load plus its own weight? I seriously don’t think so, nevertheless, we shall see…If it CAN, and that’s a big IF, its going to need WAY longer than a 30 minute, charge up, with the current technology. Either that, or a crap ton of stops for recharge stations along the way. Think about it, that weight is about the size of a medium airliner, Sometimes, you just can’t beat basic physics…🤔 Imagine something about the weight of one of those having to do a panic stop from 60mph+…

  29. Chris

I have a 500 miler for you. I PROMISE you, that truck will NOT, WIL NOT make it between Laramie, wyoming and Salt Lake City, Utah. Running I-80 from December to April. Hahaha goodluck! The weather elements will literally destroy that truck, you may get 175 Miles Max and that would be empty. I’ll take petroleum for that drive. But I’ll take Electric from San Diego to Tucson.

Looks like a minivan cut in half, Peterbuilt still makes the most beautiful semi

  33. Thick_Richard

    December 5, 2022 at 5:10 pm

A regular Semi can have a 300 gallon tank with 6-7mpg…. That’s a range of about 2000 miles. Tesla semi is a joke!!

  34. Frank Dlouhy Jr.

    December 5, 2022 at 5:35 pm

Unloaded range and loaded range for electric trucks is massively different. Range claims will need to be two numbers, unloaded and max load. 500 miles unloaded becomes 200-250 under full load. Charging times for bigger batteries will be a big problem.

  35. Marcone Costa

    December 5, 2022 at 5:42 pm

I think the way to go would be hybrid trucks and even hybrid motorcycles. The hybrid cars are the ones that rule in their niche. Why not do what is working right?

I have been a believer of this EV truck for years.
The pricing is where my doubts are. The prices Elon mentioned years ago were already to low to pay for only the battery, let alone a truck around it.
Now with the current price inflations, i’m betting the price will be no less than double of those 180k.

  38. S Mir

I after reading these comments….. it’s simply amazing how all these non CDL Class
A drivers will say how good it looks, sounds, and benefit the commerce and environment… As all of us Class A CDl guys know it’s so much of it that is flawed from the start. Maybe within 5 to 7 years 🤔 but in the short term No. If this checks all the boxes with pure benefits I will be one of the first to purchase on when it comes to market.

  40. Oat lord

    December 5, 2022 at 6:53 pm

I dunno … the first load a trucker misses in one of those things cause they’re driving around a rural area looking for a working charger will be the last time that trucker drives an ev.

  41. Chris G

    December 5, 2022 at 7:14 pm

So when it comes to maintenance how much would that cost? Will it be feasible in the long run to buy a newer Tesla truck or buy a used truck that can be repaired?

  42. Chris G

    December 5, 2022 at 7:16 pm

So this is what the extra range come from. You see the lower section that you stand up in it’s right underneath. Some of them have sleeping sections inside the truck. You don’t have a place to sleep. So in other words that’s where they get the extra range from. They took away the space for the truck driver to sleep and added the batteries. It’s not more feasible. If it was self-driving yes

  43. Chris G

    December 5, 2022 at 7:22 pm

  44. Chris G

Do you know why you don’t move between 0 to 20 seconds on a semi truck is because the weight behind it. Why don’t you do that on a miniature test haul track. The truck will sway back and forth

I absolutely love EVs, have 2 myself. A 2020 model s and 2021 BMW i4 m50, and someday they will be the best option. It’s not now and in reality the Tesla tractor isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s easy to amaze the basic drivers and public that don’t know much about diesel powered tractors. Compared to a typical fleet spec unit, yes the Tesla is absolutely amazing. But that’s it, give the tractor a bit more power and it’s over for the Tesla tractor. Fleets have their business models all wrong thinking having less power in their units is saving fuel economy. Which is not the point of comparison to the eMPG, just to the power of a Tesla tractor. It doesn’t even compare to a factory 600hp Cummins X15, I know because I’ve ran into a few getting tested and absolutely smoked them up the hill in cali and texas. All while still having 1000mile range with 8mpg.

  52. DiBellio

As a Truck Driver I’m super excited for this truck!
Btw nobody uses CB radios anymore unless you’re over 50 you won’t even have one in your truck.
Also the allowable weight limit is 80k not 82k lbs.
And range anxiety will definitely be a thing as we can drive 11hrs a day that’s 770 miles in a day at 70mph.

    • Daniel Rooke

      December 6, 2022 at 8:32 pm

EVs get an extra 2K lbs allowable weight limit. Not sure why, but it was mentioned in the recent delivery event video.

    • Shane P.

      December 6, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Because they want to encourage alternative energy vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell cars also get this extra weight despite not really needing it

    • Erik Thorstensen

      December 6, 2022 at 8:47 pm

As a driver myself, I want no part of this future junk. Truck stops, most of them, don’t have parking as it is,good luck finding a place to plug in if everything is electric. And depending on where, and want places you go,A CB is still a must if your going into quarries for a dump trailer operation like what the Boston Trucker does on his YouTube channel.

The only problem is going to take years to get every city in the usa to get that truck rolling in the country good luck whit the power source in this country and the 500 mls is like only 300 is very bad considering that a trip from california to New York is about 5 day whit that truck will take about 7 days ,normally car never get the real range they promise left taste that first

Awesome. I love my Tesla. Not because it is apparently ‘eco friendly’, but more because it is the fastest car that I have ever owned and is one of the coolest pieces of technology on the road! I also like that Elon broke the 100++ yr. old idea that the combustion engine is the only way. By bringing EV’s into the relative public, he now is increasing competition.

Wonderfully, competition in commerce does two things; 1. Drives down prices & 2. Drives up quality.

    Awesome.

  57. Sergeant Trucker

    December 6, 2022 at 9:00 pm

Useless in long haul. A diesel truck has 3 times the range. A niche market at best. Might as well be a cabover. I’ll never drive one. Pretty obvious the commentator is not a truck driver. Ii am, 28 years.

  58. Harry Mu

  61. ROAD TO PERDITION

    December 6, 2022 at 9:49 pm

This has my attention since range has been an issue with cars. To jump start this and meet Californias goals- truck stops will have to have super chargers. The only problem with this is Fossil Fuel branding. I was told that Big Oil will pull branding of any truck stop that bends to accommodate EV super trucks. They will also limit diesel deliveries/ sales to non branded truck stops that accommodate the super trucks.

DOT sets regulations on tires. Did you guys even do research? Like any? Your group does not even seem to grasp simple concepts. Most big rigs you can stand in. Software defined radio by there nature can act as a CB radio. The laws on driving times are alot more stringent than you implied. And if I under stand that right only one driver can drive a truck a day. Driver teams are a thing in long haul trucking, something that seems like Tesla is avoiding due to charge times being longer than a simple fill up. An electric Rv with no place to charge that sounds smart( company’s are paying for charger on private property). I am positive no Pepsi truck will be allowed to charge at Coca-cola. And there will be more like this. Let me be straight I like these new trucks, just not the reporting of a biased Illinformed media group with no understanding of the industry they are reporting.
