True. I’ve been to many zoo… The amount of people (especially childen) disturbing animals in their enclosure just to get reactions from the animals is insanely high. I stopped going to the zoo after i saw a parent throwing a pebble at a tiger just because she want the tiger to look at them so they can take a “good” picture of their kid with a tiger. And a tour guide/zookeeper did nothing.

and the best thing anyone can do for animals right now if they actually cared instead of pretending to care is to stop paying for them to be abused, killed for your taste-pleasure and other nonsense

One thing i like about alveus on how they rescue animals is they just don’t rescue all animals at once to get high numbers of species, eventho they have the space and resources to do so. They really want to make sure the unreleasable animals they already rescued have the best possible life in captivity. They really treat the animals they rescued as ambassadors to teach people, even animal as small as isopod (roly-poly).

Folks love what she’s doing and the Twitch communities (her own and her streamer friends) all really when something big happens. 🥲
On the off chance you’re not from her community: last year they started a fundraiser for her ARRI project that she mentioned, for the institute to raise, release and repopulate endeared species (starting with two North American wolf species). They set up a campaign where $100 got your name attached to a “pixel” in a large mural that’ll be in the research building, hoping to eventually get the 10,000 people to contribute over the next few months…

They achieved it *in 3 days.* 🥹

Which since so many missed out and vocally bummed out, they started _another round_ (which is still going). 😊

They’ve definitely created the blueprint for modem contribute efforts!

Why You Should Be a Techno-Skeptic | Jonathan Haidt | TED

Humans aren’t just social — we’re ultrasocial, wired like bees and ants for deep connection. So what happens when smartphones take over childhood, tablets replace textbooks and AI companies infiltrate our kids’ lives? Social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out three principles of technoskepticism — and explains why, two years after sounding the alarm in “The Anxious Generation,” he’s more concerned (and hopeful) than ever before.
