I can’t even stand getting the numbing shots in my mouth.
I am not letting a robot put a drill in there.

As a dentist, I appreciate this. However, I think insurance companies will eventually only pay for services done by a robot. Insurance companies already dictate treatment, so I don’t see that changing 😕

I’m a dentist and I’ve expected something like this for a long time. The truth is, something like this has the potential to do a crown in less time and with greater precision than a person, but would need to be overseen by a dentist. Obviously, there would need to be A LOT of safety data behind it before it could ever go mainstream, and there would need to be a kill switch under the patient’s control.

I have essential tremor, and I am not able to do crowns on molars anymore. I refer those to another dentist I practice with. This machine might allow me to offer those crowns to patients again.

    • @wyattcs2903

      July 6, 2026 at 11:55 pm

That’s so nice that you want to do that for your patients again 🙂 honest question though, wouldn’t using a machine to do it be kind of like allowing another dentist to do it? Or is it about retaining the business? Just curious.

    • @dawalquamar1072

      July 7, 2026 at 10:43 am

Yeah i am a dentist too and i would prefer the machine is doing this work for me ,,, so patient can discuss with the machine if he does not want to cooperate …. Hahaha

    • @thealterego4684

      July 7, 2026 at 12:23 pm

      @wyattcs2903
There is still a lot more involved than just the part the machine does. I would provide anesthesia, remove any decay (at this point, a robot wouldn’t be able to do that reliably) place a filling to build up the part where there was decay, design the crown, monitor the machine, and then make a temporary crown for the patient. So no, the machine doesn’t do it all, it’s just a tool a dentist can use.

  13. @sammileigh8665

Nope, too risky.yes there is human error, but humans also have morals robots do not and robots can malfunction too

  14. @mrkusss

    July 5, 2026 at 1:54 pm

Yess, hopefully this brings those ridiculous prices down

  15. @saxmanphd

    July 5, 2026 at 2:07 pm

If the patient is asleep, this can work. There’s a lot of heightened emotion going to the dentist already so this is a hard sell for patients.

  16. @fernandocisneors175

    July 5, 2026 at 3:03 pm

Machines are prohibited to practice dentistry

  17. @MrHatch530

    July 5, 2026 at 4:28 pm

But on one hand you got people making robots to do the job, on the other hand, you got people inventing medication that regrows teeth. Stop trying to replace people with robots and AI

  18. @TangoraceCar

    July 5, 2026 at 6:17 pm

Can we sue the robots if they F up?

  19. @sidharthsreekumar5479

    July 6, 2026 at 2:16 am

So tell me how the robot differentiates infected and affected dentin and how deep it should excavate a carious tooth. Tactile sensation ? Oh sry it’s not a human right 🥱

  20. @JeeSabbatical

    July 6, 2026 at 9:25 am

Root canal and crown cost 4k in California. If it can bring the price down, it’s a plus. There’s also going south to Mexico 😅.

    July 6, 2026 at 12:30 pm

    I can’t open my mouth that wide… 😅😅😂😂😂 that’s scary.
How does a machine tell when you feel pain or the numbing medicine isn’t working

    • “Dental Robot Aims to Reduce Trips to Dentist” — about 4% of viewers

I would be a little nervous the first or second time, but I would try it. What was more interesting was the use of technology to remove cancer cells.
