Wait for the Sony Bravia 9 to arrive. Then do the test again and call it a day.

It’ll be a great tv but won’t complete with OLED!
@jurajseman2159
July 11, 2024 at 11:15 am
@@jezza6575 It can still be an interesting for some. Technology used in the panel is important for sure but there are also customers who would prefer other then an OLED TV.
And it is also interesting to compare top of the line products regardless technology used inside.

I did consider B9 but few points:
– brightness difference is negligible- highlights are dimmer, only high APL scenes shine on B9
– micro contrast of Oled still unbeaten – in many scenes – albeit not all – you can see Sony as quite a bit washed out contrast
– off angle viewing – 30 degrees off and you start noticing – if you won’t watch tv from that angles ever you won’t notice but if you will it might bother you – loss of color, color shift, blooming.

@@whitecrowuk575 details in bright and dark areas are much better on the Bravia 9.
Micro contrast won’t be as good but there’s no blooming whilst the local dimming system is top notch.

Samsung takes it with the anti-reflective screen.

So which OLED TV has the best picture?
@GGP337
July 11, 2024 at 3:44 pm
I don’t have a G4 but I have a G3 and no matter what picture settings I use, the S95D in store looked way better and more three dimensional. Didn’t like the matte finish though

store mode always looks better regardless of the brand @GGP337

What about near-black uniformity?
(OLED’s greatest and largely overlooked weakness).

I think I’d rather have an A95L, love Sony processing!
@whitecrowuk575
July 11, 2024 at 5:44 pm
Read about it – plethora of unresolved issues on Sony, and G4 processing is close match to Sony. Taking into account price difference Sony is absolutely not worth it.

My home theater is intentionally kept dark. so with reflection problems out of the way, I am more interested in best contrast and clarity.

LG has the track record. I vote for G4.

I love the LG remote. It’s pointing ???? device is amazing ❤️ and the fact you can flush mount it to the wall!
LG OLED are leaders in the OLED technology.
I would definitely go for the LGG4 83″ if I had the choice!

CNET, didn’t even mention the 5 yr burn in warranty by LG, which I think is pretty important for a $3000 tv.

main reason to go with lg, and with an apple tv it’s damn near perfect.

if i can’t watch tv peacefully, its not worth it. Oled = stress. You have to be careful and watch out to not get pixel burn-in.
This should be an ad for lcd tv’s????

You had me at ‘NON-reflective’ with the Samsung.
Apple started the glossy screen revolution with their iMacs ages ago (because humans…like birds, like glossy things), & we’re still paying the price of that illogical & even idiotic devolution…so this is about time.
Are we not men?!
@whitecrowuk575
July 11, 2024 at 5:51 pm
That’s a quick overview – but processing on G4 is superior to Samsung. Still no smooth gradation there so when presented with lower bitrate content you will see really nasty gradation. Unfortunately matte screen is more often bad than good imho. If you have light controlled room won’t be an issue though.
@AndrewJohnWard
July 11, 2024 at 6:42 pm
Compare the G4 to the S90D as that has a glossy screen too
@carlcat

Why is one TV closer to the window when testing for reflections? Shouldn’t they be one over the other so they both receive the same amount of light?
