The “broken” US political system is actually working exactly as designed, says business leader and activist Katherine Gehl. Examining the system through a nonpartisan lens, she makes the case for voting innovations, already implemented in parts of the country, that give citizens more choice and incentivize politicians to work towards progress and solutions instead of just reelection.

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). the last guy in the oval office also equated politics to business. the political machine is its own business and he never figured that out. she’s on the same path and has no clue just how right…and wrong she is. bottom line; you CANNOT run a country like a business because it doesn’t work that way.

If everyones second favorite was Washington this system would fail to pick the most reasonable outcome. Better is Bucklin voting That is, if nobody gets 50% or more one adds the number of votes each candidate got fprsecond place.

We were given the choice of having a final five system the UK but the media made sure most of the population were confused by it and so voted against it.

I’m going to roll this one around in my head for awhile . Do think we need to have a stalemate clause in Congress, if they get locked they all get fired. Example representative that primary job is to come up with a spending budget and how to fund it . If the don’t or won’t like in the real world, they get fired. We get some new people in that will do the job.

More importantly is the voter actually doing their job. Most voters don’t even look into voting records of 2 candidates. No way they’re gonna know who’s who with 6-8 options. Uninformed and lazy voters have led us to where we are and until that changes nothing else will either.

Moderates end up being more captured by lobbyists than extremists. Jungle primaries that she supports is TERRIBLE. We’ve had them in California (supported by stupid Gov. Ahhhhnold) and they eliminated choice. Now, we only have two Democrats on the ballot. No Republicans (not that the CAGOP is worth much now….). No choice. This is a SCAM. Term Limits is the answer. Her thinking is a Democrat liberal scam. THUIMBS WAY DOWN………………

You know, it’s really hard to pass on or make anything (truly) democratic to work, when you have the CIA, tampering the voting system, littering it with (decades old of) Russian fingerprints. If you’d have a clear vision of this, you wouldn’t wonder that much about the results and you wouldn’t be just sitting in front of your screens!

My pessimist’s reading of the problem is that the system has been allowed to stagnate the way it has because it benefits the decision makers and the entities that back them financially. Who would change it?

See the number of parties in Ireland. If one party gets 5 percent of the votes, they get 5 percent of the representatives. More compromise is needed for any bill to pass.

Okay that final five voting idea is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard! What if like in the case of trump he is the only choice! Or what if like the case of Biden where they just fraudulently elected him through voter fraud? Biden would never have made my anything list nor would the traitor and liar and criminal Hillary Clinton so for that reason alone this is a dead campaign idea

One last thing: make lobbying illegal. Because even in this system, there is a contradictory incentive of building a fortune on cooperate buy-outs. Sure, it’ll happen less often, but what would we lose by getting rid of it? Let the people use their voice, not the rich use their money.

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
