      Our population aging is skyrocketing
We got half a million people older than 100 years.

Empowing choice and reducing age-related stigmas would be the ideal focus. Intentionally extracting more from individuals of advanced age is less than ideal.

    • Professor Pojo

      October 12, 2023 at 3:43 pm

@Vids42  I see the use case there. Just don’t want elderly work hours to INcrease with this tech.

I was thinking the same thing but third world countries are behind in means of implementing social justice sociologically so actually the ability to continue to make money even though a third world citizens age is older is beneficial in a society that doesn’t have social security or available health care

  5. Brownell Landrum

I kept hearing the subtext within this speech. The desire for right-wing capitalism to manipulate and use people throughout their lives for their own benefit instead of caring about taking care of the elderly. It’s okay to give opportunities for people who want to work, but to create an environment where senior citizens are forced to work and manipulated by these technologies so that the rich can get richer is obscene.

The way I see it you all did not really listen to his speech. Its supposed to be a solution to the phenomenon that our worlds population is getting older and older. This requires change. He offers a solution which is, i know, quite futuristic but if the system does not change it will break.

Social Security full retirement age is 67 now. It used to be 65. Lawmakers are looking to change it to 70.

      October 12, 2023 at 9:33 am

Lawmakers need to get rid of social security. Why am I paying taxes on getting old

    • Erwin Ullrich

      October 12, 2023 at 9:47 am

@Wil RiveraSocial security taxes are collected to fund the social security program, which provides financial support to eligible individuals during their retirement years. It operates on a pay-as-you-go system, meaning current workers’ taxes fund benefits for current retirees. When you retire, you’ll receive social security benefits funded by the next generation of workers, creating a cycle of support for retirees. These taxes are meant to help provide financial security and stability for individuals after they stop working.

    • Darin Herrick

      October 12, 2023 at 4:01 pm

@Wil Rivera Need to get rid of TAXES on Social Security. There I fixed it for you. Why paying taxes when you are old?

  10. DrewSorensenMusic

When every job requires 5 years experience, many underpaid. The problem is not agism against the old. It’s agism against the young.

If older individuals lack money, strengthen social security. Don’t make them work longer.
If older individuals lack a purpose, strengthen activities in community or the arts. Don’t make people work longer.

Is this speaker an owner class plant? The solution isn’t making people work longer. It’s making people’s lives after work better.

Dear Piyachart Phiromswad, your thinking earns a standing ovation from me 👏 Removing ageism from workplaces could benefit so many people, such as: primary caregivers returning to the workforce, mature-aged students, retrenched workers, (and so many other fabulous 50+ identity-groups of people).

  13. Shawn Vines

    October 12, 2023 at 8:31 am

I can say that most US corporations look for any reason to shed their 50+ employees in tech. Check the number during COVID and you will see a large skew to those that are older being let go from jobs. I know that isn’t your topic but I do think it is related.

  14. Cori Sims

    October 12, 2023 at 9:57 am

I doubt the ability to produce repeatable results with these technologies
Elders 60+ who have already devoted their lives to this system deserve rest, financial support, and mentor/menteeship. We need their wisdom not their labor.

Old people that have not put in years of consistent exercise because they continued to seek comfort and eat lots of sugary foods are the ones that degrade the most. This happens to be the majority of old people.

  18. David M

    October 12, 2023 at 11:27 am

Toss em back in the mines, **laughs in boss**

But seriously, the aging population needs free social and medical services both psychological and physical.

If they are lonely, then fix that without making them go back to work?

Rich people don’t really work that hard or spend time at work and are a lot better off usually in the problems mentioned. Yes the old population now is deeply brainwashed by capitalism to think that a job =happiness and yes when people have things to do and are around people they feel better. So why not have them all be apart of some kind of high purpose “fun club”. as in, one week they use the exoskeletons to help out with building a dog park then the next week they all go on a surfing trip with robots making sure they dont die, then the next week they help out single mothers with free daycare at a centre that has a lot of staff there permanently already, they just show up to tell stories or teach the kids how to make cookies or whatever. My point is, these problems can be solved with them contributing to society in a way, but they well being of a person shouldn’t be a metric of capitalism

  19. Stardust_13

    October 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm

I wonder why people think ageism is only against people that are considered too old. Ageism against people for being too young as well. But it isn’t usually in the workplace. I am 41, and I fought for 10 years to get disability benefits after I became unable to work at age 28. I worked as long as I could before I knew my body and mind could no longer take it. And every time I was evaluated by doctors and by the government, they always took my age into consideration, and based their decisions around it to a much higher degree than they should. My age should not have played any role in their decision. It doesn’t matter how old I am, I had the conditions I had, end of story. I have been given dirty looks for using my handicapped driver’s placard, despite using a cane. And even if I didn’t, that is unacceptable. My situation is mostly unknown by the public at large, the only people who understand are those in the same boat. So remember not to judge anyone by their age, regardless if it’s too young or too old, because you don’t know the facts.

Ever-changing technology is itself a major challenge for senior employment. Some of us older people don’t want to learn new technology. Many employers assume that we can’t.

  21. Darin Herrick

    October 12, 2023 at 4:47 pm

This is EXACTLY what I predicted when the birthrate started to fall. They are going to have old people go back to work because there aren’t enough young people to support them in old age.

I know VERY few people who have children, and of those, no one is having a family of three or more children needed provide a youthful workforce to support the aging Baby Boomers.

  23. Raghav Somani

Instead of assistive technologies to keep seniors working and get over exhausted, a better way is to create jobs that require what seniors are good at. What are they good at? Management, consultation, teaching, social services, community building. These work opportunities need not be classified under the category of ‘jobs’. After all, they have worked very hard their entire life, they deserve their right to be free and respected.

No, I’ve done my time putting in long hours and working hard. Just lower the retirement age, and make the young work to pay taxes and support the pension. Christ I’ve been working since I was 15 in engineering. I’ve paid my fair share now it’s there turn.

00:07 The belief that senior citizens should not work is a major problem impacting the lives of people in developing countries.

01:12 Senior employment technologies can break the negative aging spiral and unlock the power of population aging.

02:23 Senior employment technology can transform senior employment from scarcity to abundance.

03:39 Physical augmentation technologies can help overcome physical barriers at work due to aging.

04:52 Technology can help senior surgeons in developing countries to overcome hand dexterity issues and make a significant contribution.

06:14 Smart city technologies can improve the journey to work for senior citizens.

07:38 Senior employment technologies can help remove ageist beliefs and create a positive aging spiral.

I don’t know about you guys but as an workaholic person I found the idea fascinating. Think about it, the more you work the less you worry and become more productive. I even think that this technology might help the elderly live younger. Working has never killed anyone but boredom and loneliness sure does …

Some people who finish their career find having a plenty of free time boring, as it seem like they don’t have really anything to do.Therefore, in a aging society where people often live until about 100, I think this technology can be a valuable tool for those who want to keep working despite physical limitation and their fulfilling lives.

It’s impossible to save with 15% year to year inflation (if you believe it’s less you’re kidding yourself).
Gonna build a nice box city in the woods and live off the morning frost of the grass. I can’t wait 🙂
Now that I’ve said my peace, I’ll continue to watch in case there’s hope for me haha.
