Why are people so STUPID as to think SST will ever be profitable? It’s not just how much it costs to fly but also IT IS ALMOST NEVER WORTH THE EXTRA COST I. TERMS OF COST VS FLIGHT TIME.

If its safe, definitely worth the business class price.

If spacex’s startship manage to make earth to earth travel it would be faster on similar routes and it might even be cheaper

they weren’t to expensive to operate the US couldn’t make a SST so they just banned them from flying at supersonic speeds over America (sooo salty) which stopped super sonic transport

We’re barely solving the existing climate problem and already started creating a new one by blowing sonic boom all over the ocean. And I doubt it’s “sustainable”

They didn’t even bother to improve the design, its just a copy of an 60‘s airplane design.

  39. Just Luke

    August 17, 2020 at 4:24 pm

The question I am asking about the airplane is where the baggage goes…
The general concern is, if supersonic flights are a viable option what so ever… The planes will always have to generate lift, which will always generate drag, and you’ll never fly supersonic over land… So to me land (underground) transportation seems a way more viable… Even with high infrastructure costs.

If you don’t agree comment and argue please

If they can keep the price of a ticket comparable to business class, then I think they should do well. I would probably not spend the extra money normally, but I certainly would just once for the opportunity to fly supersonic. On the other hand, they will probably get a lot of the regular business class customers.

Sorry, but RR is the worst company to develop the engines. The Olympus engines on the concord were a derivative of a military engine already in service at the time. Today, Pratt and Whitney and GE both may engines that currently are used on military aircraft that are capable of super cruise, and they are reliable. Both the Engines RR developed for the A380, A350 and more famously the 787 have all had spectacular failures due to sever cost cutting from RR.
Also I know this is a stepping stone to larger passenger liners, but I would still rather see a more high capacity jet than what is essentially a supersonic CRJ.

This is exactly like Electric cars. It’s the start of a new age and change is coming for the better (Which I’m excited for) and if companies like Boeing are getting into it, the price of these tickets will come down even if they are more like Business class tickets

    August 17, 2020 at 11:23 pm

Actually Andy Altman, Boeing & Airbus don’t have “active development” programs for supersonic passenger planes. They both talk a good game on supersonic flight. But if you actually dig down and analyse how much money is actually being spent it’s negligible. Routes over water only, are simply not profitable enough to amortise the huge cost of developing supersonic passenger planes. Boom is in for a rough ride. Let’s hope it’s investors have deep pockets. You need to up your research game. You’ve fallen flat on this topic i’m afraid…

“Boom” – terrible name for an Aircraft manufacturer. Imagine the headlines when one crashes?
