The solution is simple: ablative lasers to slow orbits and deorbit debris. It will be expensive and will spark an arms race, but we are already in an arms race, and space-based lasers will be developed, maybe after an event that induces the kesseler syndrome.

Which is scary. Because, for those who don’t know. Saturn’s rings cast a permanent shadow on the planet.
As in whoever is under it will experience a permanent winter where nothing grows.

@averytucker790 I believe that the shadow cast by Saturn’s rings would move just like the shadow of our moon onto the earth, but the rings would add to the complexity of the weather and seasons.

The danger is real but it can be mitigated. There does need to be some real effort on clearing space debris through capture and removal and possibly redirecting smaller debris into the atmosphere or somewhere out of normal orbit regions. Maybe space based lasers could help without being an obvious weapon.

With how well we clean up after ourselves, I expect space will be cut off from us in a decade or two. Won’t be able to go up when there’s only a slim chance you won’t have a catastrophic impact from a screw moving at more than 22k/mph. Like the opening credits in the anime Planetes

Is there no global agency to stop this. It’s the next plastic and we know about it. Musk should be stopped.
Moving the satellites down will also make them move visible but Musk doesn’t care for astronomy or anyone else apart from greed and money for themselves. Soon space will be unaccessible and we will loose all our modern technology and be put back 70 years for the next century. Say goodbye to GPS, weather reporting, TV or any modern technology when it all goes wrong.
