So are most Bollywood movies considered musicals then? 🧐

    • @kanakasathasivan1158

      October 14, 2026 at 1:27 pm

I personally don’t consider them musicals (after studying western and Indian theater arts). The music is generally external to the plot and fantastic (as she says it’s broken out). Most western musicals have songs that move the plot, explain characters personalities, motivations, etc. and are understood to have actually happened in the movie (like the character starts in one location and ends in another or reveals something important in the song to another character).

@kanakasathasivan1158 So you’re saying Joker 2 is a Bollywood film?

    • @manager-nim2623

      October 14, 2026 at 7:28 pm

They don’t break into musical numbers during a dialogue, it’s more like how movies have tracks playing except in Bollywood they play out these tracks

Why is it called Bollywood? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I genuinely have no idea

      Bombay + Hollywood

    • @ShatteredObjects

      October 14, 2026 at 4:38 pm

@ke1shi Since it’s Mumbai now, they should call it Mollywood. Though that sounds like a place in Florida

2000s too. Any genre would have characters break into song and dance

It’s to honor the mind and consciousness. It has nothing to do with married status. Any one of any gender can adorn one but unfortunately women in most cultures preserve the clothes and ornaments more than men do.

    Where is the Expert?

  10. @ordisyggdrasils9655

I like when movies know they are for entertaintment in some ways, wether its to make you think in new ways and/or look at pretty art. Newer movies often miss that part

    • @RandalReid

      October 14, 2026 at 8:20 pm

I think people subconsciously at some level recognize movies made sloppily or designed by a committee, devoid of any artistic merit or intent. Movies that are self-aware of what they are and lean into it, even if they aren’t perfect, will always have some entertaining value.
