The Origami King might be the best Paper Mario game yet

Paper Mario: The Origami King is an excellent entry into the Paper Mario series that delivers on all the hallmarks players have come to love. It’s smartly designed, surprisingly funny and straight-up bizarre in the best way possible. If you own a Switch, Origami King is essentially a no-brainer.

I really REALLY wanted to like this game, but that battle system just looks awful. Will deffo not be getting this one. Oh, and don’t use your accent as an excuse, Jeff. I’ve known people with all kinds of accents and they can still say Mario, not Mehrio.

People who say Mario like him get a thumbs down ????
Mario even pronounces his own name correctly at the beginning on Mario 64 ????

Jeff’s videos are at his best when he is just a little bit sassy, sarcastic, and goofy.

Was definitely planning on getting this one. I love Mario RPGs dating back to Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars on SNES (still my favorite). Ssems like a good palate cleanser after The Last of Us Part 2. I’m playing Horizon Zero Dawn so going to skip Ghosts of Tsushima for now. But as a fellow Jersey boy it definitely is pronounced Mahr-ee-oh. It’s Italian. Come on Jeff

Anthony Marcolini as a person who has never played the original Paper Mario games before, and played Bug Fables. I will have to say, people really should play Bug Fables.

Don’t worry as a Japanese citizen,
You English speakers are all pronouncing Mario wrong

    • Keith D.

      July 16, 2020 at 2:00 am

Mario is an Italian word tho

    • Xeno

      July 16, 2020 at 2:42 am

      Mario is italian, not japanese

    • Deltath Riylaan

      July 16, 2020 at 3:13 am

@Xeno Doesn’t matter of he’s an Italian in the story. He’s a Japanese created character. A lot of Americans have names that originate from other countries yet rarely pronounce them how their country of origin does.

This is the guy that trashed Ghost of Tsushima and now he thinks this is the best Paper Mario. It’s either an out of season April Fool’s joke or he’s like my idea of a super villain in the world of games journalism. I need to see more of his reviews to confirm this…

    • Deltath Riylaan

      July 16, 2020 at 3:16 am

He said the game wasn’t really a departure from previous games, which.. is an insane thing to say. It’s wildly different from all previous games. He says he loved Super Paper Mario. I mean, that game is an action platformer. This is an adventure puzzle game. Sticker Star and Color Splash are… well, they’re something. And the original two are straight RPGs. If any series has had an identity crisis, it’s Paper Mario. And yet he acts like every entry has been the same, which is the exact opposite of reality and the opposite of what literally anyone who knows anything about Paper Mario would say.

    July 16, 2020 at 6:22 am

Just watched most of the gameplay “i mean there was 26 hours of it so I’m not sitting through it” but this game seems middle of the road. Story was alright, gameplay is good but battle system is flawed and there is virtually no progression… But Paper Mario has never lacked story just none of the stories have compared to Supers story. But this game doesn’t even compare to Ttyd or Paper 64. Both those games had good stories very good battle systems and a reason to battle (to progress health and gain xp) also no partners just temp 1 timer sidekicks? The game is fun but middle of the road honestly 4th best in the series. Miles ahead still above color splash and sticker star. The random paper gimics and puns need to end. Remember the original games were called “Super Mario Story” the 2d “paper” was just an art style. Sticker Star was the revamp of the series in a way making it all weird office supply and actual paper based. 64 TTYD and Super were all part of the Super Mario Story trilogy so hopefully now that this trilogy is done we can reboot and return to form.
