How do we defend people’s freedom and dignity against authoritarianism, when the “law of war” doesn’t seem to apply anymore? In the face of the Russian occupation of Ukraine, human rights lawyer and Nobel laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk considers this question every day. Exposing the failures of the international system of peace and security, she highlights the capabilities of ordinary people during extraordinary times — and urges us all to take an active position in the struggle for freedom. brilliant and very clear speech from Oleksandra. it’s full of right messages and empathy, as well as clear statement that international law does not work now…and hence it needs to be reviewed to bring justice and return names to those people who suffered from russian army

Brilliant speech that addresses why people that insist on “peace talks” and “stop giving Ukraine weapon” are subtly advocating for russia. And it’s not putin, it’s hundreds of thousands of putins. And the millions of silent accomplices.

It hurts to realize how blind and insensitive the real world has turned out to be. I lived and believed in the UN, in institutions, in some common understanding of “humanity”, empathy. Books, movies, the long history of mankind itself should have taught people to empathize. And so, when a terrible monster knocked on my door – millions of people chose to turn away, and some even unashamedly supported the beast. History will remember both those who sided with the good and those who sided with the occupier.

Russians. It is hard to believe how much inhumanity there was in these people who came to us to kill, rape, torture. Some do it directly themselves, others support it, and some just turn a blind eye. But it’s not enough. Some, especially the vile ones, traveling around free countries playing the “victim” card… for themselves. And hundreds of thousands buy into it. You can find those grifters on this same channel — she, in the red, wanted to give you a lesson (and some of you have bought into it).

Do the right thing. This decision of yours can mean more than you imagine.

    1) Ukraine shouldn’t have killed Russian speaking people in the Donbas and Luhansk.
    2) Ukraine should have followed the Minsk 1 and Minsk 2 accords.
    3) Ukraine should have used diplomacy instead of thinking they could defeat Russia who:
    a) Defeated Napoleon
    b) Defeated the Nazi’s
    c) Has the most nuclear weapons
Continued for point 3) …thinking they could defeat Russia on the battlefield.
    4) 500 thousand Ukrainians dead.
    5) All the money in the world will not save you from the inevitable.
    6) Ukraine was made in 1990. This was the same time Russia had a space station orbiting planet Earth.
    7) If you have something to say, just remember, where is your space station? United States? None? All of Europe? None.
    8) The US and NATO invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and are currently supplying bombs to Israel so they can drop them on civilians. Those “human rights” eh?
    9) Where were the “human rights” when the US dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
    10) Seems like “people” who have blonde hair and blue eyes ancestry only give a damn when their blonde hair blue eyed people are getting killed. But when it comes to everyone else, you say absolutely silent.

This is such an important time for the future of democracy and Ukraine is in grave danger of being overlooked because of the shift in focus towards the conflict in Palestine.

Here in the UK we have seen a right wing cabal take over our state, flagrant abuses of ministerial power in massive issues concerning our future with no public mandate whatever and an apathetic, disenfranchised population just rolls over and takes another beating.

Corruption, incompetence and mismanagement has turned my country into a second rate, authoritarian state.

One thing keeps us safe from dictatorship. Freedom of speech.

Our press is run primarily by extremist right wing barons. Only the BBC retains a tenuous grip on independence constantly accused of anti government bias, anti patriotic sympathies and liberal socialism.

How can the people live without free speech? How can people live without identity? How can people live without a safe place to sleep?

We must help those in need.

Unpunished evil grows. That’s why we can’t let russia get away with its crimes. Justice doesn’t make itself exist. But it’s in our power to make it exist. And prevail. If you care about freedom, democracy and human rights, support Ukraine.

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
