11:28 🚀 Building a positive growth mindset alongside skills increases success and unleashes limitless possibilities for change and growth in education.

Maybe she is nervous, and her breathing became heavier.
      Please don’t be judgmental 🙏🏽

She is clearly quite nervous. Public speaking can be very intimidating, particularly at a venue as highly regarded as a TED talk. Please be kind. It really isn’t that difficult. 🙏

Thanks for sharing this. I clicked on the video because i was hoping for a rundown of what degrees/certificates are actually worth the cost and risk these days. So many jobs are being outsourced.

4:18 Part of the issue with confidence is that we let others tell us what we can and cannot be and this impacts our desire and ability to learn and thus retain information we set out to learn. Impacting confidence in result.

I went for my masters at 49. I was totally lost in the technology for which there was NO instruction for. Went back for my doctorate at 55, finished at 60. Both degrees I was working full time in addition to school. I faced lots of ageism from my classmates 30 years my junior (especially on the group projects). But I had lots of support from my faculty, who were closer to my age. I was alone most of the time and not asked to be in study groups. But I did it, on my own, by the grace of God and support of my mother (who passed one year prior to my finishing my doctorate).

      November 13, 2023 at 1:41 pm

I became an RN at 55.
Yeah, ageism was there, but what was worse was the sexism.
      I’m a male and heterosexual.
Those demographics put me in roughly 1% of my graduating class.

In a country that considers itself acutely aware of sexism, they sure seem to be oblivious to it when the shoe is on the other foot.

I now work on a unit that has two other straight white males. It’s awesome.

      ….BTW, congratulations NP!

The first time I went to college, I left after only two years, but I went back later when I was 40 to get an engineering degree. I loved college the second time and always took an additional class or two of general interest along with my engineering curriculum . I wish I could have gone back the second time sooner, but just didn’t have the opportunity.

    1. stay in touch with reality — when you’ve grown a lot then discard old failure stories — after you’ve learned from them
    2. Don’t chase perfection — we are human — we will make mistakes when learning
    3. Be compassionate towards yourself — the same way you are commpassionate towards your colleagues and friends.

This is relatable. I have a great communications job in a very high profile company, everybody knows it. I’ve wanted to work for this company since 2012 as it relates to my passion. After I’ve got my communications degree in 2016 I got into this company, and it has been great. I am there for eight years now. I am 31 years old, but for years I’ve had this thing in my head: I would hate to spend my life in an office environment, 70% of the time behind a screen. Time to change. I’ve always loved wood working, did it throughout my childhood in the garage of my dad. It got lost along the way, because you move out of your parents’ house, start a study and basically do whatever anyone else is doing. Now I am at the point that I am going to start a 2-years wood working class. Totally change the environment and context. I am so much looking forward to working with my hands, and actually creating something. I truly believe everybody can change their course.
